NANCY: Spicy at the Gym, Crafty in the Kitchen

Now that we rang in the New Year, it's time to face the facts. The holiday season is over and it's time to stay away from those Christmas cookies! Although I always go into the holiday season with the best intentions, I can't resist all the delicious dips, pastas and desserts.

Now that the long holiday season is over, it's time to get back on track. It's a new year and I think it's time to spice up my workout and get crafty in the kitchen.

Instead of doing my usual workout at the gym, I made a resolution to try new classes and add different exercises to my routine. Trying out new classes not only takes me out of my comfort zone, but I get to learn new exercises to incorporate into my daily workout schedule.

I recently started taking kick-boxing classes, and I absolutely love it. It's a high-intensity class that keeps me moving and energized the entire time. Not only do I leave the class dripping in sweat, but it also gets me pumped up and exhilarated from all the punching and kicking.

I also love taking yoga, but I have never tried hot yoga. This new year is the perfect opportunity to try something new, hop into a hot yoga class, and diversify my workout routine! Although trying a new class may be intimidating, I will go into it with positive thinking and will challenge my body in new and different ways.

Exploring new classes and exercises at the gym is a fun way to spice up your fitness routine in the upcoming year. However, it isn't the only way. Getting crafty in the kitchen can be another exciting way to be healthy and have fun doing so!

For me, the best way to get back on track after overdoing it during the holidays is to also start eating on schedule. Starting my day off with a big and healthy breakfast sets me up for a successful day of eating!

Instead of eating the same old thing for breakfast, I wake up early and get busy in the kitchen. I love making omelets because I can switch up how I make them depending on my mood that morning. Some days I'll make a spinach and feta omelet, and other days I'll throw in salsa and turkey.

Another one of my favorite breakfasts is something I like to call my "Cereal Sundae." I fill a bowl with cereal that's rich in fiber, add skim milk, berries, nuts, and voila! I have a delicious twist on an average bowl of cereal. On days that I am in a rush, I make it portable by using Greek yogurt instead of milk.

So Jets fans, getting back in shape after the long holiday season isn't as hard as it may seem! Trying out new things at the gym and in the kitchen can be fun and enjoyable.

One last piece of advice is to just always be prepared. I find that the best way to dedicate myself to something is to really dive into it 100%. I make sure I've eaten before I work out and that I have healthy snacks in my bag at all times. Preparation is the key to success!

Happy New Year, Jets fans!
