KACEY: Recipes for a DIY Spa Day

Hey, Jets fans! As a dance teacher, full-time graduate student and Flight Crew Cheerleader, I know my life can sometimes get a little chaotic. No matter what career, lifestyle or schedule you have, I am sure you've all felt stressed and overwhelmed as well. However, it is important to find "you" time to relax and unwind.

My favorite thing to do to relax and de-stress is spend a day getting pampered at the spa. But if you're like me, there never seems to be enough time in the day to do so. (Besides, trying to squeeze an appointment in on your lunch break isn't relaxing anyway!). So I've come up with a few "do-it-yourself" at-home spa ideas for the busy women like me out there! Many of them only take a few minutes, but surely will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take charge of a busy day.

Bubble Bath: Bubble baths can provide instant relaxation. Fill your tub with warm water, add a handful of Epsom salts, 10 drops lavender essential oil, and ½ cup baking soda. The combination of these ingredients draws the toxins out of your body, lowers stress, and balances your pH levels! For a little extra relaxation, light a few lavender-scented candles in the bathroom.

Skin Moisturizer: Coconut oil is an amazing skin moisturizer! Use it by itself or combine 1 tbsp. of it with 2 tbsp. of organic raw honey and use it as a moisturizing face wash.

Body Scrub: Combine 2¼ cups brown sugar, ¼ cup honey, ½ cup olive oil, and 1 tsp. vanilla to create an exfoliating body scrub that smells great!

Anti-Redness Facial: Create a face mask made from an egg yolk and a squeeze of lemon juice to reduce facial redness. Keep this trick in mind in the upcoming months when the cold weather begins to dry out your skin!

Microdermabrasion Facial Scrub: Microdermabrasion treatments work wonders and leave your skin soft and smooth with a beautiful glow. Unfortunately, they are typically expensive. However, you can achieve the same result at home using coconut oil and baking soda! Mix a pea-sized amount of baking soda with the same amount of coconut oil, rub it in a circular motion on your face, and rinse it off (for a single application). If you are making enough for multiple uses, just keep the ratio of coconut oil to baking soda 1:1.

Creating the Perfect Manicure: What's a spa day without a manicure? Freshly polished fingernails can enhance your entire look and make you look well put together.

  1. To remove nail polish stains that can make your nails appear yellow, mix together 2¼ tbsp. baking soda and 1 tbsp. peroxide. Apply the paste to your nails and let it sit for 5 minutes. After you wash your hands, your nails will be clear again!
  1. To leave your hands feeling silky smooth, combine ¼ cup honey, 2 tbsp. hand soap, 1 tbsp. olive oil, and about 1 cup warm water, and soak your hands for about 5 minutes. Then, after you polish your nails, apply the skin moisturizer you made earlier to make your skin feel healthy and soft.
  1. Painting your own nails can sometimes appear messy, especially around the cuticles! If you apply cuticle oil (vitamin E or coconut oil work too) along the cuticle, any polish that gets on your skin can be easily wiped off with a Q-tip!

I hope these DIY treatments inspire you all to pamper yourselves. Enjoy! Cheers! GO JETS! —Kacey
