Jets-Patriots Game Recap | Green & White Drop to 3-13 with 42-10 Loss

Game Recap-Wk17-2025-V2

The Jets weren't able to play spoiler Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium, dropping a 42-10 contest to the New England Patriots. The Green & White fell to 3-13 while the Pats, eyeing an AFC East title, moved one step closer to their first division crown since 2019.

Breece Hall reached the 1,000-yard plateau for the first time in his NFL career on a 7-yard rush late in the third quarter. Then Hall ripped off a 59-yard scoring run at the outset onset of the fourth quarter, but the explosive play that made it 42-10 came when the outcome had been decided.

Trailing by 21-0, it was Hall who gave the Jets' offense its first jolt. He ran twice for 23 yards and picked up 21 yards on a catch-and-run before Nick Folk cashed in a field goal from 39 yards out.

For the third time in the last four games, the Jets fell behind by 14-plus points in the first quarter. The Patriots scored touchdowns on their first two possessions and then intercepted rookie QB Brady Cook with 3:35 remaining in the first quarter.

"Highly, highly disappointed on the way that we came out," said HC Aaron Glenn. "To allow this team to come out and score on I think the first six drives – was not good. Offensively, we were stagnant. We allowed them to pressure the quarterback and threw another interception this game which is not good."

The Pats received the opening kickoff and marched 61 yards over 7 plays, finishing the drive on Drake Maye's 2-yard scoring toss to TE Austin Hooper. After the Jets went three-and-out, New England moved 85 yards over 7 plays and pushed their lead to two scores on Rhamondre Stevenson's 1-yard score. The Pats outgained the Jets 177 to 13 in the first quarter and totaled 12 first downs.

On the ensuing play following the Jaylinn Hawkins interception of Cook, Patriots WR Stefon Diggs made a highlight-reel catch up the visiting sideline that resulted in a 31-yard gain. The Pats cashed in with points off the takeaway as Maye's second TD throw went to Stevenson for 22 yards.

After Folk's FG made it a 21-3 game, the Pats tacked onto their second quarter lead with Maye's 3-yard TD to Diggs with 3:01 remaining and then Maye's 13-yard toss to Henry with :31 seconds on the game clock.

"It was unacceptable," said LG John Simpson. "It's the best word I can use to describe it. That can't happen. … We have to play better across the board."

The Jets attempted a pair of fake punts in the second half –- a conversion from P Austin McNamara to rookie S Malachi Moore and an unsuccessful attempt on an Isaiah Davis rush attempt.

Cook, making his third consecutive start, finished 19-of-33 passing for 152 yards and 1 INT. Drake Maye completed 19 of 21 for 256 yards with 5 TDs.

"I didn't think the effort was where it needed to be and we have to figure that out," Glenn said. "We have one more showing against a good team, against a playoff team and we have to get ourselves going."
