With all but one of their projected starters out of the lineup, the New York Jets completed their preseason with a 19-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium on Friday night. HC Aaron Glenn's unit finished the summer season 1-2.
Quarterback Adrian Martinez and rookie WR-KR Jamaal Pritchett rallied the Jets from a 19-3 deficit in the final quarter. The Green & White made it a one-possession contest late as Lawrance Toafili's 19-yard run in the fourth quarter cut the deficit to 19-9. That was followed by Martinez's successful run for a 2-point conversion. Then rookie Donovan Edwards punched it in from 1-yard out, pushing the Jets within 19-17 with 3:07 remaining in the fourth. But Edwards was stopped at the 1 on the ensuing 2-point conversion attempt.
"We're a resilient bunch," Martinez said. "I think that's something AG has ingrained in us that we have fight whether that was obviously some of the guys on the field today or some of the starters who were in tee T-shirts and shorts. They were just as fired up as the rest of us."
The Jets' defense held, and Pritchett answered with a 22-yard punt return and got 8 yards on a catch from Martinez. Pritchett led the Jets with 54 yards receiving on 4 catches and he averaged 21 yards on three punt returns. In a final chance to showcase his talents before Tuesday's roster cutdown, Pritchett was fast and elusive throughout while Eagles defenders were left grabbing for air on multiple tackle attempts. But Martinez and Pritchett couldn't connect on a fourth-and-10 from the Philadelphia 42 and the comeback was halted.
"Probably one of the most exciting preseason games I've been a part of," Glenn said. "There are a number of things I could talk about when it comes to mistakes, when it comes to penalties, I could talk about those for days. But the one thing I am proud of is man, they were resilient today and they did not quit. They were excited on the sideline, and they tried to will themselves to win this game."

Jets QB Justin Fields and Eagles Super Bowl MVP QB Jalen Hurts watched the game from the sideline. Eagles HC Nick Siriani and the defending champions took a similar approach as Glenn with the regular season on the horizon.
Rookie QB Brady Cook, an undrafted free agent from Missouri, got the start for the Green & White. The Jets' offense sputtered for most of the first half with their first six possessions ending in five punts and an INT. But Cook gave the Jets a jolt before halftime, hitting fellow rookie Quentin Skinner in plus territory for a 27-yard gain. Three plays later, Cook connected with Skinner on a third-down conversion. The 10-play possession culminated with Nick Folk's 41-yard boot and the Jets went into the third quarter trailing, 6-3.
The Jets carried that momentum into the second half, albeit for a moment. Following Braiden McGregor's sack of Eagles QB McCord, rookie Pritchett's 41-yard put the hosts back into plus territory. But Harrison Mevis misfired from 55 yards out and the Eagles took advantage of their short field with a nine-play, 55-yard possession that ended on Montrell Johnson's 15-yard scoring run.
Rookie S Malachi Moore had a strong close to the exhibition season. Moore, a fourth-round pick from Alabama, intercepted a Kyle McCord heave into traffic with 2:32 remaining in the first quarter. He also made an impressive punt coverage stop earlier in the opening frame, corralling Ainias Smith for no gain after Austin McNamara's 42-yard punt. Late in the second quarter, Moore burst into the offensive backfield and took down RB Keilan Robinson for a 4-yard loss.
"I feel like this preseason game was probably the slowest things have been for me, which is finally a sense of relief because the first couple of games were kind of moving a little fast," Moore said. "But things are starting to slow down for sure."
Right tackle Armand Membou, the No. 7 overall selection in last April's draft, was the only Jets' first-teamer in the starting lineup. Membou was flagged for a holding penalty in the first quarter and a false start penalty that should have been called on Kohl Levao. The Jets had 10 penalties for 78 yards.
