Prior to Friday's practice, Jets HC Aaron Glenn ruled nickel CB Michael Carter II (concussion protocol) out of Sunday's game vs. the Cowboys. Glenn was waiting for more clarity on edge Jermaine Johnson (calf) and RB Kene Nwangwu (hamstring), who both did not practice Wednesday and Thursday, before finalizing their game status.
RB Braelon Allen, who sustained a knee injury in Monday's 27-21 loss to the Dolphins, will decide whether to opt for surgery. Allen, who was placed on injured reserve Thursday, is expected to miss 8-to-12 weeks.
"There are two different ways he can go about it," Glenn said of Allen. "He can actually rehab this, and it would be the same timeframe or he could have surgery and get it cleaned up. But the rehab time will be exactly the same. So that will be a decision he and his agent have to make and I'm not making the decision for him."
Action Behind the Emphasis
On Thursday, Jets HC Aaron Glenn wore a black boxing glove and punched at the ball as receivers and running backs alternated reps in a ball security drill.
"You can emphasize the words all you want, but you have to put action behind the emphasis," Glenn said. "Listen, we can't turn the ball over and lose games.
Late Thursday night, the San Francisco 49ers downed the Los Angeles Rams, 26-23, in overtime. Entering the game with a minus-5 turnover differential, the 'Niners were + plus-2 in a tight division win.
"These things can turn instantly," Glenn said. "I'm looking for our guys to make that same type of impact when it comes to taking the ball away. The thing is we have to be intentional about it. Then offensively and on special teams -- we can't give it away. So, it's been talked about. We're doing everything we can to improve on that and these things come in bunches and we know that, so hopefully our bunches are out the way."

Remembering the Cowboys
Aaron Glenn, who started his career with the Jets, reunited with Bill Parcells in Dallas when he signed with the Cowboys in 2005. Glenn, who led the Cowboys with 4 INTs in '05, recalled a Parcells interaction with a Cowboys teammate that revealed a more sensitive side to the legendary coach.
"Bill responded a totally different way than he would when he was with the Jets and I told him 'man, you're getting soft,' " Glenn said with a smile.
In two seasons with the Cowboys, Glenn appeared in 32 regular season games (8 starts) and recorded 5 INTs and 19 PDs.
"I had a great time down there playing with those guys," Glenn said. "I think Jerry [Jones] is a great owner, he really cares about his players, and he really wants to win just like most owners in this league -- just like our owner [Woody Johnson]. Pretty good franchise to play for."
