Expanded Flight Crew Announces Open Auditions

The New York Jets announced today that the 2008 New York Jets Flight Crew will be holding open auditions for the first time ever. And the squad will more than double in size this season, with 22 spots up for grabs, including one member who will be selected by Jets fans in an online vote at www.newyorkjets.com.

Being a member of this team is a unique opportunity to be a part of a New York NFL football franchise, entertaining fans on gameday and actively participating in the Jets community year-round.

"Our Jets Flight Crew has become a fun and exciting part of the gameday experience for our fans," said Matt Higgins, the Jets' senior vice president of business operations. "Holding open auditions for the first time this year and expanding the squad to 22 members will increase the reach and impact of the Flight Crew with our fans and in our community."

Application materials will be available exclusively on www.newyorkjets.com, beginning Wednesday, March 12. Applicants can participate in three prep classes prior to auditions, one each in Long Island, New Jersey and New York City.

The voluntary classes will be conducted by choreographer Denise Garvey along with current Flight Crew members and are designed to teach aspiring team members New York Jets Flight Crew routines to help prepare them for the tryouts. The audition application fee is $25, and there is an additional fee of $25 per prep class.

The classes will be held:

  • Saturday, April 12, at the Meadowlands practice bubble from 10 a.m.-noon;
  • Sunday, April 13, at the Jets practice facility bubble in Hempstead, N.Y., from 10 a.m.-noon;
  • Wednesday, April 16, at Chelsea Studios in New York City from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The application fee for auditions only is $25 and the deadline to apply is Friday, May 9. Tryouts will be held at the Jets practice facility on the campus of Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., starting May 17. Twenty-one team members will be selected for the 2008 squad at the conclusion of the tryout process. The 22nd and final member of the New York Jets Flight Crew will be voted on by Jets fans at www.newyorkjets.com.
