Several weeks ago, a late bidding war broke out in the final minutes of the live auction for the Jets VIP Road Experience Package being offered on NFL Auctions.
Rick Ahumada stuck it out to the bitter end and came out on top - winning a trip for himself and three of his most dedicated colleagues. Though employees are generally accustomed to receiving chocolate covered pretzels and caramel popcorn for the holidays, Ahumada chose to give his business partners a Christmas to remember this year: a trip to Minnesota aboard none other than the Jets jet.
Traveling from as far as Florida and California, Rick Ahumada and his three business partners met at the Jets Training Complex at Hofstra University this past Saturday evening to embark on their once in a lifetime Jets VIP Road Experience.
After a whirlwind tour of the complex meeting rooms, practice fields and memorabilia, the auction winners boarded the team bus to the airport for their first class ride aboard the Jets charter to Minnesota.
A few hours later, they deplaned into the cold climate, exclaiming, "This is so exciting!"
After a good's night's rest, the four fans rose early for anything but an ordinary breakfast.
On this morning, they didn't need much coffee to perk up. Over eggs and bacon, Ahumada and his partners had an opportunity to chat one-on-one with Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum. They peppered him with questions about a broad range of topics from salary cap issues to the inner workings of the draft, to life as a GM and anecdotes about Jets players and coaches.
They then arrived at the Metrodome where they watched their favorite players warm up from the sidelines and chatted with Jets alum Marty Lyons before taking their seats to watch the Jets glide to a stunning 26-13 victory over the Vikings.
They then boarded the plane back to New York tired and happy, just like the team they had come out to watch.
