Jets DL Harrison Phillips had a bird's-eye view of the Jets' defense against the Jaguars, a unit that was gashed for 48 points, and resulted in HC Aaron Glenn's announcement on Monday that he had dismissed Steve Wilks as defensive coordinator.
"It's a very, very difficult decision," Phillips said. "And I'll start with how much trust I have in AG and his vision for this organization to win. And so I ultimately put that in the forefront of any of my emotions, know that I trust the man at the helm. And yeah, it's a difficult thing because coach Wilks is such a great coach and a great person, and ultimately, it kind of comes down to all of us. It's just part of this league. And I can say, I just can't wait till Wednesday gets here so I can get in the mindset of game planning and prepping and back into the routine so I can focus on the next opponent."
Phillips, who was acquired in a trade from Minnesota, has been one of the bright spots in the center of the defensive line, especially since the trade of Quinnen Williams to Dallas at the beginning of November. After a pair of games in which the defense held the opposition's run game in check, the last three games have seen a regression.
"I think we have enough players who want to seek discomfort and find areas to grow," Phillips said. "And it's tough when individually, you're not playing up to the standard that you hope to. And then collectively, whether that's the defensive line or the linebackers or the secondary, and then again, collectively as an entire defense. Obviously, it hasn't been up to the standard that we see or that we are aiming for, and so it's tough. And it's a blessing that we still have three games left to go out and work for that."

Glenn has tabbed Chris Harris, up until now the team's defensive backs/pass game coordinator, to replace Wilks. Harris had the same title and job with Tennessee for the past two seasons and is now in his 12th season coaching in the NFL.
"From my interactions with him, just somebody I can tell who really cares about what he does," Phillips said. "He's passionate about the game. He's very smart in terms of game planning and knowing what we're going to get. I know that his room appreciates him and speaks fairly highly of him. And I think AG always talks about the right type of people that are blue collar, bring your lunch pail to wherever. He's here all the time, he's working real well. And from the meeting that he ran today, I was very appreciative of how he handled it."
HC Aaron Glenn on QBs and Garrett Wilson
UDFA QB Brady Cook got his first NFL start, and tossed his first NFL TD pass on Sunday at Jacksonville. He completed his first 6 passes, but then made what HC Aaron Glenn called "rookie mistakes," throwing 3 interceptions.
On Monday, Glenn was asked if Cook would start at New Orleans, or if either Justin Fields (knee) or Tyrod Taylor (groin) would be ready to return to the field.
"I'm going to be consistent by the way I go about doing things, and I think you understand how I do that," Glenn said in response to a reporter's question. "And I'm going to make sure this thing plays out the way it needs to play out. And I'm going to evaluate this whole thing up until Wednesday and I'll give you guys a good answer Wednesday."
The next question was about the possible availability of WR Garrett Wilson, who was placed on injured reserve in Week 11 after he re-injured his knee, for Sunday's game. Glenn also considered whether Wilson might be shut down for the balance of the season -- 3 games.
"It's Monday, and I'll find a lot of that out going later today," Glenn said. "You'll get an answer Wednesday, but hopefully he does. I think we all hope that he plays this year, but I want to make sure you guys have a true answer when it comes to that."
