Final Stretch of Games Will Test Mental Toughness; Special Teams Set to Face Dynamic Jacksonville Unit

HC Aaron Glenn announced Friday that several players will be out for Sunday's Week 15 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. QB Brady Cook will start his first game for the Green & White with Tyrod Taylor and Justin Fields both listed as players that will not take the field. Adrian Martinez, who spent the preseason with the Jets and was signed to the team's practice squad this week, will be Cook's backup.

In addition to Taylor and Fields, CB Azareye'h Thomas, TE Mason Taylor and LB Kiko Mauigoa will also not suit up for Sunday's game.

"Welcome to the NFL," Glenn said of the injuries. "These things happen. We have a number of guys that are going in and out of the lineup, and that's never going to change in this league. Injuries happen, and you don't sit back and worry about them."

The secondary, in particular, has undergone significant changes. The Jets have had 13 players take snaps in the defensive backfield this season.

"We have [CB] Jordan Clark, we have Ja [CB Ja'Sir Taylor] -- we have all these guys in the secondary that have filled in and have done a good job for us," Glenn said. "I don't expect anything different from any guy -- offense, defense or special teams -- that comes in and plays for us."

Mental Toughness Continues to Rise
With four games remaining in the 2025 season, the Jets are set to face three likely playoff teams in Jacksonville, New England and Buffalo. For HC Aaron Glenn, the final stretch of games will test the foundation he has built in his first season leading the Green & White.

"It's outstanding for us, outstanding for some of our young guys," Glenn said of facing the high-caliber opponents. "Outstanding to continue to see exactly where we're at and how we're trying to grow."

Glenn, who said the Jets "had a bump in the road last week" in a 34-10 loss to the Dolphins, believes his team is trending in the right direction. Prior to the Week 14 loss to Miami, the Green & White had won 3 of the last 5 games. And even in two losses to the Ravens and the Patriots, there were several positive takeaways.

The Jets will now have a prime opportunity to respond in Week 15 against a Jaguars team that is playing at a high level in all three phases.

"That's the good thing about this league -- every week is different," Glenn said. "There are just ebbs and flows of how this game goes. But getting a chance to be able to [say], 'OK, I dealt with some adversity this week, how am I going to operate next week?' That tells you a lot about how your team is operating.

"I will say this, over the course of this season, I've seen the mental toughness of this team continue to rise. So, I have no doubt in my mind that those guys will go out and compete their [expletive] off this week."

Battle of Special Teams Powerhouses
The Jets' special teams unit has been among the league's best this season, and on Sunday, it will face another unit that has been firing on all cylinders.

Jacksonville's Parker Washington has returned an NFL-high two punts for touchdowns this season, making the Jaguars and the Jets two of the four teams in the league to return multiple punts for TDs in 2025.

"I think he has all the tools in his bag to be able to be as dynamic as he is," special teams coordinator Chris Banjo said of Washington. "I think they have a really good scheme in regard to how they get things done. The guys over there play really, really hard."

Jaguars kicker Cam Little has also been a standout. The second-year player set an NFL record earlier this season with a 68-yard FG in a win over the Raiders.

"You can tell he takes the field with confidence every time he steps out there," Banjo said of Little.

Banjo, who said he remains focused on how his unit can continue to put its best foot forward, will have his group ready to compete again on Sunday.

"[Banjo] relates to us very well, but he also demands the best out of us," S Malachi Moore said. "You can't ask for anything more as a player."
