No matter who WR Garrett Wilson is hauling in passes from, his goal remains the same -- doing his job and doing it well.
And as veteran QB Tyrod Taylor steps in for an injured Justin Fields in Week 3, Wilson knows it will be important for him and the Jets' receivers to be at the top of their game.
"For us it's just about being on our stuff," Wilson said. "Making sure that we're at where we're supposed to be at on time. It doesn't change for our receiver room. Let's be where we're supposed to be. Let's present our best for our quarterback and let's see where that puts us."
Wilson has never shied away from the opportunity to make plays no matter who is under center. The fourth-year player has amassed over 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three NFL seasons despite catching passes from eight different quarterbacks -- and he most recently added his former college quarterback, Fields, as the ninth player on the list.
But this won't be the first time he plays with Taylor. The duo connected during two games last season and most recently in Week 2 against Buffalo. Wilson, who said being in the league for 15 years "doesn't happen by accident," expressed confidence that the Jets' backup QB is prepared to get the job done.
"All the different offenses that he's been able to soak in and learn, the coaches and players feel confident in him to go out and do his stuff. … He's dialed in, he knows all the checks. He's getting us into where we need to be, and when someone operates like that, you're going to respect him."
Wilson believes rookie WR Arian Smith can also play a key role in elevating the Jets' offense on Sunday.
"I can't wait to see him get a good sample size this week and what he does with it, because I'm confident it's going to be something special," he said.
After a Week 2 offensive performance that many players described as disappointing, Wilson and Co. are ready to find a rhythm with a veteran leader in Tampa Bay.
"This is going to fall on our receiving room to be where we are expected to be at so we can help him go out there and sling it like he can," Wilson said of Taylor. "Because he can really sling it around."
