This is one in a series of articles that will also appear in the New York Jets 2025 Yearbook, which will be published later this summer.
Jets first-year head coach Aaron Glenn, in his 8 seasons as a Jets cornerback, his 15 total seasons as an NFL player and entering his 12th year as a pro coach, has compiled an impressive body of stats, facts and figures in his pro football career. Here is AG by the numbers:
1
Detroit's defenses with Glenn as their coordinator from 2021-24 earned several NFL No. 1 rankings. Last season the Lions were first in allowing opponents to convert only 32.4% of their third downs and first in opponents' combined passer rating of 82.0. In 2023-24 combined, the Lions were No. 1 in rushing yards allowed/game (93.6). And with the D's contributions to the Jared Goff-led offense, Detroit in '24 led the league in scoring margin at plus-13.1 points/game.
2
Glenn became the first player in Jets franchise history with 2 returns of 100-plus yards. As detailed below, he had a 100-yard interception-return TD in 1996 and a 104-yard missed FG return in '98. Only one other Jet has produced a pair of 100-yard plays since — Joe McKnight with 107- and 100-yard kickoff-return TDs in 2011-12.
5
Glenn finished his Jets regular-season career with 5 return touchdowns. Three came on interceptions, one on a kickoff return and one on that missed FG runback. The 5 return TDs are tied for 2nd-most in franchise history with LB Mo Lewis, with both trailing S Erik McMillan's 7 return scores.
7
Glenn has worn the colors of 7 different NFL franchises. He played for 5 different teams — the Jets (1994-2001), Texans (2002-04), Cowboys (2005-06), Jaguars (2007) and Saints (2008). He also was assistant defensive backs coach for the Browns (2014-15) and defensive coordinator for the Lions (2021-24). He has coached for two of the teams he played for — the Saints as secondary coach (2016-20) and now the Jets as head coach.
24
Glenn's 60-yard pick-6 against Jay Fiedler at Miami in 2001 gave him 24 interceptions as a Jet, tying James Hasty for the most picks by a cornerback in franchise history. The only DBs with more were Bill Baird, primarily a safety, with 34 INTs from 1963-69, and S Dainard Paulson with 29 from '61-66. Darrelle Revis then stole ahead of Glenn and Hasty with his 25th INT in his last game as a Jet, against the Bills in the 2016 finale on New Year's Day 2017.
100
Glenn's first 100-yard play as a Jet came in the third game of the 1996 season at Miami against the Dolphins. He snared the formidable Dan Marino's fourth-and-goal pass at his goal line and took off for the opposite end zone, wide-striding the last 20 yards for the score.
104
As Indy's Mike Vanderjagt lined up for what would have then been an NFL-record-tying 63-yard field goal at the end of the first half in the RCA Dome against the Jets in 1998, Glenn drifted back into his end zone, just in case. What ensued was a record-book play but not the one the Colts envisioned. Glenn fielded the short kick 4 yards into his end zone, then dashed to the house for a 104-yard TD, setting the league distance record (surpassed 4 times since) for a missed FG return.
294
Glenn's 294 yards on interception returns, finalized with his 60-yard IR TD at Miami in 2001, come in at No. 9 on the Jets' list of career leaders, just a yard past CB Otis Smith's 293 yards established two seasons earlier. But a look at the top 8 in franchise history shows mostly safeties and one LB (Larry Grantham) ahead of Glenn. AG held the Jets record for most interception return yardage by a CB until Darrelle Revis roared past it in 2011 en route to 463 yards for his Jets career.
