Eric Gelfand

Executive Vice President, Chief Brand & Communications Officer

Biography

Eric Gelfand enters his 11th season with the New York Jets and his second as Executive Vice President, Chief Brand and Communications Officer. He brings more than 30 years of experience as a brand strategist for premier sports, media, and entertainment properties, including Madison Square Garden and Legends.

In his role, Gelfand drives the strategic development and execution of all team communications initiatives. He oversees the organization's marketing, branding, and advertising strategy; its digital, social, and broadcast platforms and partnerships; and its multifaceted community relations programs. He serves as the club's primary spokesperson for both football and business communications and leads the organization's local, national, and international media strategy — working in close partnership with team ownership, President Hymie Elhai, General Manager Darren Mougey, and Head Coach Aaron Glenn, as well as key executives and players, to ensure unified messaging and effective problem-solving across the organization.

For more than a decade, Gelfand has reshaped how the Jets connect with their fans, their city, and the world — fusing purpose-driven storytelling with community-centered strategy and a sustained focus on brand development. He has transformed the organization's approach to branding, media, and outreach by championing cross-departmental collaboration and ensuring every initiative reflects the franchise's core values.

Gelfand's brand leadership has been central to modernizing the Jets' visual identity and narrative, including the widely praised rollout of a new logo, uniform system, and creative platform in 2024 and 2025 — developed in close collaboration with internal stakeholders and fans. He also launched 1JD Entertainment, an award-winning content and production division that has redefined storytelling in professional sports. Built on a mission to foster authentic connection through world-class production, 1JD has become an industry benchmark for excellence.

Under his leadership, the Jets' brand, communications, content, and community relations departments have earned more than 40 industry awards from organizations including the Emmys, Cynopsis, Hashtag Sports, and Front Office Sports.

Through the organization's community relations department, Gelfand oversees the New York Jets Foundation, which works to positively impact the lives of young men and women across the tri-state area by supporting youth football and advancing social justice in underserved communities.

Over the past five years, Gelfand has helped lead the Jets' efforts to expand access and opportunity for girls and women in football, driving the rapid growth of flag football under his direction. The organization now supports more than 7,000 girls and women annually across two continents and three countries, and has played a leading role in flag football's official sanctioning as a varsity sport in both New York and New Jersey, as well as the launch of the largest women's collegiate flag football conference with the ECAC. Gelfand also oversaw the creation of the first NFL-supported girls flag football leagues in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Prior to joining the Jets, Gelfand served as Senior Vice President of Communications and Brand Strategy for Legends, the venue-solutions company co-owned by the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys, where he led communications, public relations, brand strategy, and creative services across all company divisions.

Before Legends, he was Senior Vice President, Communications for SCP Worldwide, overseeing strategic media positioning and branding for its holdings, including the St. Louis Blues and Real Salt Lake. Gelfand's career also includes 12 years at Madison Square Garden, where he held vice president roles across public relations for MSG Networks, Corporate Communications, and Sports Properties — playing a key role in growing the company's media assets as well as its college basketball and boxing franchises.

Gelfand holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Delaware.
