Biography
ERIC GELFAND, now in his 10th season with the New York Jets, is the team's executive vice president, communications and content. He has over 30 years of experience as a brand strategist for some of the most notable sports, media, and entertainment properties. He is responsible for the strategic development and execution of all team communication strategies, oversees the marketing brand and advertising strategies, its digital, social and broadcast platforms and relationships, as well as the organization's multi-faceted community relations programs.
Gelfand has spent nearly a decade reshaping how the New York Jets connect with their fans, their city, and the world—merging purpose-driven storytelling with community-centered strategy, with a focus in Brand development. Gelfand has transformed the organization's approach to branding, media, and outreach by championing collaboration across departments and ensuring that every initiative aligns with the franchise's core values.
Gelfand serves as the club's primary contact and spokesperson for the team's communications efforts for both football and business operations. He is responsible for the local, national, and international media strategy for the organization, working closely with Team Ownership, President Hymie Elhai, General Manager Darren Mougey, and Head Coach Aaron Glenn, as well as the club's key executives and players to unify messaging and problem solving.
His deep experience in brand strategy has helped the Jets modernize their visual identity and narrative, including the rollout of a beloved new logo and uniform system in 2024—developed together with internal stakeholders and fans alike. In 2023, Gelfand launched 1JD Entertainment, an award-winning content and production division that has redefined what storytelling looks like in professional sports. With a mission to foster authentic connection through world-class production, 1JD has become a benchmark for excellence, earning 18 Emmys and eight Cynopsis Media awards.
Over the last five years, Gelfand helped guide the creation of the Jets and Nike Girl's Flag Football League, which sparked New York and New Jersey to officially sanction the sport a varsity and pilot program in each state respectively. Most recently, Gelfand oversaw the creation of the first-ever girls flag football leagues in the UK and Ireland.
Through the organization's community relations department, Gelfand oversees the Jets Foundation, which looks to positively influence the lives of young men and women in the tri-state area by supporting youth football and promoting social justice, particularly in disadvantaged communities, while also directing the team's Social Justice, Diversity, and Inclusion team (SJDIT).
Prior to joining the Jets, Gelfand was the senior vice president of communications and brand strategy for Legends, the venue-solution company co-owned by the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys. While there, he was responsible for the development and execution of Legends' communications, public relations, brand strategy, and creative services across all the company's divisions. Prior to joining Legends, he served as the senior vice president, communications for SCP Worldwide, where he was responsible for the strategic media positioning and branding for its holdings, including the St. Louis Blues and Real Salt Lake, while also serving as the primary spokesperson for the company. Gelfand's career includes 12 years at Madison Square Garden in a variety of departments as vice president, public relations, including MSG Networks, Corporate Communications, and Sports Properties, where he played a key role in the development and growth of the company's media assets, as well as its college basketball and boxing franchises. Gelfand holds a BA in political science from the University of Delaware.
