Biography

ERIC GELFAND, now in his ninth season with the New York Jets, is the team's senior vice president, communications and content. He has over 30 years of experience as a brand strategist for some of the most notable sports, media and entertainment properties. Gelfand is responsible for the strategic development and execution of all team communication strategies, oversees the marketing brand and advertising strategies, its digital, social and broadcast platforms and relationships, as well as the organization's multi-faceted community relations programs.

Gelfand serves as the club's primary contact and spokesperson for the team's communications efforts for both football and business operations. He is responsible for the local, national, and international media strategy for the organization, working closely with Team Ownership, President Hymie Elhai, General Manager Joe Douglas and Head Coach Robert Saleh, as well as the club's key executives and players to unify messaging and problem solving.

He has overseen the growth of the Marketing department over the last two seasons as it has sharpened its brand, advertising and creative acumen to synergistically support the expanding needs of the organization. This past season, the department led a complete overhaul of the team's brand, introducing a modernized fan-favorite logo and a family of supporting marks while working collaboratively with stakeholders across the organization to design and launch its new uniforms through a multi-faceted campaign.

In 2023, he oversaw the launch of 1JD Entertainment – a trailblazing content, production and brand division designed to use authentic storytelling, world-class production, and innovative promotion to connect the team, fans and partners. The department has been recognized by multiple organizations for their excellent in production, including 18 Emmys and eight Cynopsis Media awards since 2017.

He has also spearheaded the content department's expansion and focus of episodic franchises across its social and digital platforms through the creation of new, signature series, such as "One Jets Drive" and its off-season spinoff, "Flight," which combined for over 11 million views in 2023. In 2023, the organization's continued social-first mindset, led to 1.3 billion impressions (+23%), 420 million video views (+95%) and revenue across all platforms. In addition, the team saw digital increases of traffic and unique visitors (+50%), live programming (40 million views, +181%) and gameday traffic (+76%). As well, the Jets' Influencer Program earned increases in impressions (+705%), engagements (+445%) and video views (+1185%), including a potential reach of 290 million.

Over the last three years, Gelfand helped guide the Jets and Nike Girl's Flag Football League which has led to it becoming a varsity sport in New York State and a pilot sport in New Jersey, paving the way to varsity status. This program gained numerous nominations and awards, including Cynopsis Sports' Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award in '23 and Best Expansion Outside of North America in '24 for its UK Girls Flag initiative. Through the organization's community relations department, Gelfand oversees the Jets Foundation which looks to positively

influence the lives of young men and women in the tri-state area by supporting youth football and promoting social justice, particularly in disadvantaged communities, while also directing the team's Social Justice, Diversity and Inclusion team.

Prior to joining the Jets, Gelfand was the senior vice president of communications and brand strategy for Legends, the venue-solution company co-owned by the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys. While there, he was responsible for the development and execution of Legends' communications, public relations, brand strategy and creative services across all the company's divisions. Prior to joining Legends, he served as the senior vice president, communications for SCP Worldwide, where he was responsible for the strategic media positioning and branding for its holdings, including the St. Louis Blues and Real Salt Lake, while also serving as the primary spokesperson for the company. Gelfand's career includes 12 years at Madison Square Garden in a variety of departments as vice president, public relations, including MSG Networks, Corporate Communications and Sports Properties, where he played a key role in the development and growth of the company's media assets, as well as its college basketball and boxing franchises. Gelfand holds a BA in political science from the University of Delaware.
