Before his time with the Cardinals, Natkin served as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Hutchinson Community College in 2018. Natkin's coaching career also includes a stint as the offensive line coach at Northern Colorado (2006) and at Midwestern State (2007-10). At Midwestern State, he helped the Mustangs achieve a combined 41-15 record and clinch the 2009 Lone Star Conference title. In his senior year, he led all NCAA Division I tight ends with 64 catches for 787 yards, converting 46 of those receptions for first downs. His performance earned him unanimous All-American honors, being recognized by the Associated Press, AFCA Coaches, FWAA, Walter Camp, TSN, FN, and Rivals. He was also named the nation's top tight end by Sports Illustrated in 2000, becoming UTEP's first-ever unanimous All-American in football.

Natkin was part of the UTEP team that won the WAC Championship in 2000 and appeared in the Humanitarian Bowl. He was named UTEP's Male Athlete of the Year for 2000-01, inducted into UTEP's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016, and named to UTEP's Centennial Football Team. Over his college career, he recorded 172 receptions for 1,934 yards and 11 touchdowns. He concluded his college career by playing in the East-West Shrine Bowl and the Senior Bowl.

After going undrafted in the 2001 NFL Draft, Natkin signed a rookie free agent deal with the Tennessee Titans and played three games during the 2001 season. In 2003, he joined the St. Louis Rams as a fullback during the preseason.
