Jets C Wesley Johnson has signed his restricted free agent tender.

A fifth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2014 NFL Draft, Johnson was acquired by the Jets on waivers from the Steelers early that regular season. Last year the 6'5", 297-pounder took over the center position when Nick Mangold was injured, started eight of the final nine games, and participated in more than 650 offensive snaps on the season. Johnson, who started 51 games at Vanderbilt, has appeared in 26 games with New York's AFC representative.

"He's a very intelligent player, a very intense player," said head coach Todd Bowles of Johnson at the NFL owners meetings. "He learned a lot from Nick. He's great in the run game. He's a good leader and he got better as the year went on, so, hopefully, those things will continue."
