Thursday Player Interviews

Transcript of interviews with selected Jets players during the locker room media period before Thursday's practice:

LB DAVID BOWENS

On the defense having no sacks or turnovers after two games …

The mood is that we are putting pressure on ourselves to get sacks and create turnovers just from a point of helping ourselves. We know that sacks and turnovers can help win games and we want to help ourselves. No matter who we are playing, that has to be something we have to stress and put pressure on ourselves to get done.

On pressuring the opposing quarterback …

My experience in nine years is that sacks do come in bunches. Last year I went seven games without getting one and then I got one in each of the last six games. They do come like that. It's an attitude, especially when you blitz. If you are the guy that is blitzing, your mentality has to be "I'm the one getting to the quarterback," even if you don't.

On facing his former Dolphins teammates …

I'm just one of those guys that is going to go in there and work hard. Because I do know those guys, it does create an extra incentive. My home is in Florida and I will see those guys all off-season. I want to come away with this thing 2-0 against Miami this year.

WR LAVERANUES COLES

On the Dolphins defense …

They are still a great defense. In talking yesterday, people were talking about their numbers. If you watch the film, their defense is making plays and moving fast. A lot of stuff that is happening is happening late in the game. It's still a great defense.

On whether this is a "must-win" game …

No. It is a 16-game stretch. Last time I checked it wasn't the end of the world. You still have to play the rest of the season. You pack it in if you do that. You take it one game at a time and hopefully we will come out on the right side of things.

On whether the team feels any added pressure after an 0-2 start …

If you start pressing, you're going to start running the wrong direction and you don't want that to happen. As an athlete that is something that you understand. You never start pressing because you can do nothing but hurt yourself. A lot of times when you start pressing hard, then everything you worked on to get better at you start getting worse at.
