Locker Room Sound Bites: Jets-Jaguars

Todd Bowles, Ryan Fitzpatrick on 'Two-Minute' Offense, Bryce Petty on His Personal QB Competition

Selected quotes from the Jets' locker room at MetLife Stadium following their preseason-opening 17-13 victory Thursday night:

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick on how the preseason opener went for him and the first offense..."I wish we would've done a little bit more with that one. We tried to go a little up-tempo almost just to practice a two-minute situation in that second drive and got a couple of big plays out of Quincy [Enunwa] and we were able to get it in. There was some first preseason stuff that we kind of got out of the way, managed to avoid the presnap penalties and turnovers, and that was a plus for us."

Head coach Todd Bowles on if the two-minute tempo on the second series was planned..."It's just something we've been working on and we wanted to practice it on somebody else as opposed to ourselves. We were going to do that anyway."

Enunwa on if he can be the Jets' No. 3 wideout behind Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker..."Any way that I can come in and make plays, I would like to do. To be a No. 3, I'm not going to say that. I'm just going to be a guy that's going to help our team be great."

Jets QB Bryce Petty on if he feels like he is in a quarterback competition..."Yeah, but I think that's depending on how you word it because I feel like, to me, I'm in a quarterback competition with myself every time I go out there. And to put that simper, I want to be the best quarterback I can be every day, whether that's at practice, watching film, in a game, whatever it is. It's kind of a competition with myself."

Jets rookie LB Darron Lee on recording a tackle for loss..."That's just my job. I don't have too much excitement for it. I was just doing my job."

Rookie WR/KR Jalin Marshall on if he's making strides toward securing a roster spot..."We've got three more [preseason] games, and these games, these weeks, you've got to make another play, make a play better than last week. So I just keep pushing, keep pushing, and keep making plays."

LT Ryan Clady on what it feels like to be back on the field after his ACL injury with Denver last season…"It feels good. It's just knocking the rust off and continuing to practice and continuing to get better. I still have some things to work on that I need to get better at. I'm excited, though, for the year."

Fitzpatrick joking with reporters on why he trimmed his beard so closely..."Just because. So you guys stop talking about it."
