The Jets play their home opener against their long-time AFC/AFL rivals, the Miami Dolphins, at MetLife Stadium today (1 p.m. ET kickoff). And that means that rookie QB Sam Darnold, coming off the Green & White's 48-17 opening-night triumph at Detroit on Monday, will be making his first pro start in front of Jets Nation.

Also, head coach Todd Bowles has named three defensive players and two offensive players — including WR Quincy Enunwa, playing in his first Jets home game since 2016 — as his gameday captains.

Darnold, the five captains, and the rest of the Jets will be in their traditional home uniforms, green jerseys and white pants, the combination they'll be wearing for the 15th time in Bowles' 25th home game as HC. They are 7-7 in the first 14 games. The Bowles Jets have also worn at home white/green three times, white/white three times, green/green twice and all Kelly green twice.

As for playing Miami in home openers, the Jets are 4-4 but prevailed last year at MetLife, 20-6, as Robby Anderson gathered in a longball touchdown strike from Josh McCown and Terrence Brooks had two interceptions, which earned him the AFC Defensive Player of the Week award two days later.

WR Jermaine Kearse, who sat out last week's season opener at Detroit with an abdomen injury, is active today. Seven other Jets won't be active for the game:

  • S Marcus Maye
  • CB Derrick Jones
  • CB Juston Burris
  • G Dakota Dozier
  • TE Jordan Leggett
  • DL Folorunso Fatukasi
  • LB Josh Martin

And Miami's six inactives, after placing starting LG Josh Sitton on Injured Reserve late in the week, are:

  • QB Luke Falk
  • QB David Fales
  • WR DeVante Parker
  • CB Cordrea Tankersley
  • RB Kalen Ballage
  • T Zach Sterup

Brad Allen is today's referee. This will be the seventh Jets game Allen has refereed since 2014 and his first Jets home opener. His last Jets game was last year's season finale at New England.
