Interviews with selected Jets players following Thursday night's Green & White Scrimmage:Â Â Â Â
WR JERRICHO COTCHERY
On the team bonding…
Well, we've had a lot of time to spend with each other. We're totally out of our comfort zone. We've been holding our training camp at Hofstra forever. The city of Cortland has worked out tremendously. It has been fun. We've been having a lot of time to spend with each other as a team and I think it's going to be good for us.
On where the offense is right now…
I feel good where we are right now. This morning we had a practice where we had the upper hand on the defense, so we knew they were going to come out ready to play for this scrimmage and they kind of got the upper hand on us this afternoon. We have some room for improvement. We have to go back and watch film and continue to get better as an offense to make sure we're good in the running game and the passing game. I think we'll be okay.
On the dropped passes…
Dropped passes, that's all it is. It's about concentration. With concentration, you can't think about anything else but the ball at that point in time. You can't think about where you're going to land. First thing is catching the ball — catch the ball then worry about everything else after that. We just have to make plays when it's time to make plays.
On the quarterbacks…
They've both been doing a great job of leading the offense. I think the competition is bringing out the best in them. They've been improving every day. So from that standpoint I think they're going to benefit from this competition, and the offense and the team is going to benefit.Â
RB SHONN GREENE
How it feels to finally get some contact…
It was good to get the pads on. When I got out there everybody was running around, everybody was flying around on defense and offense. I think we still have some work to do, but I think we're doing good so far.
On what he's concentrating on…
Running routes out the backfield, getting mismatches and stuff like that. Everything – seeing your fingers wrap around the ball, running your route the right way, stepping up.
On his reputation for not being a good receiver…
That was because I came from Iowa, so we didn't really pass the ball to the running back in that offense
WR WALLACE WRIGHT
On if he feels like he can be the No. 2 receiver…
I think so. I am kind of going under the radar a little. People are talking about other receivers and I have not been mentioned. I am out here practicing, working everyday, and trying to let people know I am out here. The competition is wide open, so let the best man win. It is all love amongst the receivers in our meeting room. We are all friends. There is no jealousy or envy between us. Some of us have been here together for years. We are all out here working hard. We are all friends off the field, so whoever gets the start, gets the start.
On if the underdog role fuels him…
My whole life I have been the underdog. I am used to it. I walked on at college at UNC, Division I, (and then) tried out here and got on here. That is just the story of my life, so it is no different. I approach every game and practice the same way — just come out here and work to get better everyday.
On if he has a me-to-you factor with Mark Sanchez…
That is a Schotty (Brian Schottenheimer) thing. This is my fourth year, so I have been hearing it for years. When a quarterback and you are on the same page, that's all it is. Mark and I have that me-to-you factor.
On the type of pass Sanchez throws…
He throws a great ball. I can't express it enough. The ball is always right there when I turn around. He has good feet, he is mobile, he can get out of the pocket. He is just a good player. Once he learns the offense, he is going to be dangerous.
