EA Q&A: Uniforms in KC, O-Line Progress

Jets Will Don Road White Jerseys at Arrowhead, Defense Working on the Deep Ball

  • *EA: For the second time this season, the Jets will don their white jerseys and green pants. Next week, the Jets go back to the all-white look as there will be a whiteout at MetLife Stadium when the Seattle Seahawks come to town.

EA: The rookies.  Jalin Marshall, Robby Anderson and Charone Peake make up half of the WR group. Marshall, who is the Jets top return man, had the first three catches of his career against the Bills. The 5'9", 200-pounder lost a fumble that resulted in a touchdown, but he did come back and make a couple of key catches down the stretch including a third-down conversion.  Star wideout Brandon Marshall has the knee/foot injury and did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, but he still has a couple of days of treatment ahead. Eric Decker was limited Thursday in practice with the shoulder, but head coach Todd Bowles said he is making progress. Marshall is as tough as they come and he said he will be "relentless" with his rehab, commenting on how well Enunwa and Decker are playing right now. With the media Thursday, Decker said he expects to be ready for action in Week 3. The Chiefs have an aggressive secondary and they'll play some man in the back end.

EA: We'll certainly discuss on the podcast with Chad, but Bowles made it clear the Jets are working on the deep ball every day in practice. The Green & White know they will continue to see it if they don't fix the communication issues and coverage busts. Defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers said a good defense cannot allow those explosion plays.

EA: Old photo. Hopefully I still have the similar build, but I'm tipping the scales at about 170 pounds right now. On flat bench, I try to complete  three sets of 10: 175-180, 185-190 and 195-200. Then I go dumbbells on the incline with three sets of 10: 65s, 70s and 75s.  That last set on the flat bench is typically six or seven reps though before the spotter starts getting in some work.  I like pectoral flies, weighted dips, skull crushers, triceps rope push downs and push-ups. I don't think I've ever maxed out before. The goal one day is to complete one set of 10 at 225 pounds. Jets strength coach Justus Galac thinks I can do it, but not today. If 225 is on the bar right at this second, I'm putting my money on six times. I love working out though. Tips? Send them my way. I'm a big fan of a crossfit workout called the Chelsea —  five pull-ups, 10 push-ups and 15 squats every minute for 30 minutes.

EA: Awfully impressed. Offensive line coach Steve Marshall deserves a ton of credit for what this unit has done early, alternating both Ben Ijalana and Brent Qvale at RT and receiving solid production from the rest of the group. It all starts with C Nick Mangold, who will lock horns Sunday with NT Dontari Poe, and RG Brian Winters has found his comfort zone. The plot thickens this week if LG James Carpenter can't go as Bowles said the Jets are currently working three players in there with the first unit at practice.
