10 things you can expect if you are going to the Jets vs Giants Preseason Week 3 Game.
WR Eric Decker sat out of the last preseason game as he was nursing a couple of nagging leg injuries. He's returned to practice and has looked just as he did before the injuries came about. Decker's chemistry with QBs Geno Smith and Michael Vick hasn't looked better.
One of the key free agent signings in the offseason was CB Dimitri Patterson, middle. He's dealt with a few nicks and knacks to his quadriceps, ankle and calf, which kept him out of action against Cincinnati. He is on his way to being back to full strength as he returned to team drills this week. He said he hopes to play tonight against the Giants.
DL Damon Harrison had an impressive training camp. "Snacks" dropped a few pounds in the offseason and one can see his explosiveness off the line at stopping the run game (see above). He's excited about the cross-town rivalry game with the Giants after Big Blue rookie RB Andre Williams said he felt the Giants were the real New York team. Harrison did take too kindly to Williams' remarks, tweeting "See you Friday, Mr. Williams… #JetLifeeeeee."
Head coach Rex Ryan announced on Thursday after "Family Night" at Hofstra University that CB Darrin Walls would be starting on the outside at cornerback. Walls has come on strong during the last few days of training camp. He essentially sealed the 25-17 win against Cincinnati with an interception in the fourth quarter, something he's consistently said is important for him: "When I get an opportunity to catch a ball for an interception, I just gotta deliver. After practice I work with Eric Smith and we do a bunch of different ball drills and work on the jug machine, just trying to complete the play."
Attention Jets season ticket holders: this is your second chance to earn some more points for your Jets Rewards. Attendance at the game will allow you to rack up points that you can trade in for cool prizes. Plus, if you help the team by being loud during an opponent's third down, or forcing a false start, that's more points on your account.
Friday marks the fourth installment of the MetLife Bowl, in which the winner receives the coveted Snoopy Trophy. The Jets hold a 2-1 edge over Big Blue in the "bowl" game. Besides keeping the trophy for the next year, the winning team will also receive a $30,000 donation to a charity of its choice. The loser of the game will receive a $20,000 donation to its charity.
Former Jets guard Brandon Moore, now a Heads Up Football Ambassador attended the Irvington Golden Knights practice this week and surprised the young footballers with tickets to the Giants game, as well as letting members of the Golden Knights, Ivy Hill Cowboys, Central Ward Cougars and East Ward Stallions know that they will be playing during halftime.
The Launch Crew will be in action for their second game day, sending T-shirts into the crowd during select TV timeouts and will also be roaming parking lots before the game with giveaways.
The Aviators, presented by Gallant Entertainment, provide ambiance at Jets games and will continue to do so Friday.
Friday's game against the Giants will most likely break the tie between the Jets and Giants. Big Blue holds the edge in the regular season, 8-4, but counting preseason matchups the all-time record is knotted at 28-28-1. Also, Rex Ryan is 3-3 in all games against the Giants and Tom Coughlin is 6-6 against the Green & White.
