The Jets announced Monday that they have waived OLB Quinton Coples.

The 6'6", 290-pound Coples, in his fourth season, appeared in 10 games while making two starts. He recorded the first fumble recovery of his career in the Jets' Week 1 victory over the Browns.

After racking up 24 sacks and 40.5 stops for loss at the University of North Carolina, the Jets took Coples with the No. 16 overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft. Coples, who played both DE and OLB early in his career, recorded 16.5 sacks his first three seasons including a career-high 6.5 in 2014.

Under head coach Todd Bowles and defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers, the Jets have run a 3-4 system with many configurations. Against the Texans, the Green & White started veterans Calvin Pace and Leger Douzable at outside linebacker. Rookie Lorenzo Mauldin, a third-round pick from Louisville, continues to develop as a pass rusher and has seen more time in sub packages.
