Friday Player Interviews (9/14)

Transcript of interviews with selected Jets players during the locker room media period after Friday's practice:

DE SHAUN ELLIS

On commissioner Roger Goodell …

Since he first stepped into office, he's done a great job. He's done a great job of setting everyone straight and setting the line that he is not tolerating nonsense acts. It's good for our league.

On whether the investigation distracted the team …

It hasn't even been a thought. It's done; it's over with. It's last week. Even though they made the ruling, we are focused on Baltimore right now.

On RB Willis McGahee …

He has a great stiffarm. He runs the ball hard. He is elusive in his movements. He hits the hole real hard and fast. We have to do a good job of getting off our blocks and getting our hands on him.

RB THOMAS JONES

On the Patriots' punishment …

It has nothing to do with me. I'm not involved in that. I'm here to play football and that is what I'm focused on. We have the Baltimore Ravens coming up in a couple of days and that is what I'm really thinking about. That game is over. We can't do anything about the Patriots game. We need to correct those mistakes and go into the next game.

On LB Ray Lewis ...

He takes care of himself really well. He constantly works hard every year during the off-season and season. He takes care of his body and he is a tough guy. He plays with injuries. He is one of those guys that are special.

On starting the season with a loss …

You don't want to go 0-2. You don't want to start off like that. It just puts you further in a hole. When you lose a game, you obviously want to come back the next week and get a win to get that taste out of your mouth.

S KERRY RHODES

On the Patriots' punishment …

It is a league matter. I know Coach told you that already. It's a league matter and we are behind whatever the commissioner says. The way the commissioner is coming in, if you do something wrong then you're going to be punished. This is just another case of that happening and him showing that he is being serious. I think it was justified.

On whether the investigation distracted the team el…

It has not been a distraction at all. We are trying to get a win here. We are 0-1 and they are 0-1, so it's going to be an important game. We are both trying to get a win. You can't let it disturb you at all.
