Harris Diagnosis: Late in the second half of Saturday's MetLife Bowl, David Harris went down with a shoulder injury. Harris, who had an outstanding preseason with 15 tackles, 1 sack and 3 TFL, will have some time to recover with the regular season still nearly two weeks away.
"They said it was sore. The X-rays came back negative but it's a bad bruise," said head coach Todd Bowles. "We'll see how it gets up into game week and see how it feels. Obviously, I'm sure David doesn't want to miss, but right now it's too early to tell."
Henderson the Starter: Next to Harris, veteran LB Erin Henderson remains atop the depth chart. But rookie Darron Lee, who has flashed in preseason action, will see plenty of action.
"Erin is the starter, but Darron is going to play," Bowles said. "We have a bunch of different packages that, depending on what they come out in, one may play more than the other. That doesn't mean anything from the depth chart standpoint."
Even Battle: As the Jets enter the final preseason week, both Brent Qvale and Ben Ijalana continue to work with the first team as Breno Giacomini remains out with a back injury.
"I think it's even right now. I don't have a clear-cut winner that's going to take the spot right now if Breno (Giacomini) doesn't play," Bowles said of the competition. "We'll see going into the Philadelphia game."
Signal Callers in Philly: Bowles hasn't decided if Geno Smith will play Thursday night in Philadelphia. Both Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg are expected to get reps against the Eagles.
"Going forward, we'll talk about it as a coaching staff and we haven't talked about it yet," Bowles said. "We still have some days to go."
The Right: In recent days, many people have expressed their opinion on San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's sitting during the national anthem. Bowles was asked today how he would feel if one of his players sat down during the anthem. "They have that right. That's what the country is about. They have that right. We all have the right to do what we want."
