Locker Room Sound Bites: Jets-Patriots

Postgame Talk About the Jets' Strong Game but Failure to Finish, Tom Brady & the Pats in the Clutch

Selected quotes from the Jets and New England MetLife Stadium locker rooms following the Jets' difficult 22-17 fall-from-ahead loss to the Patriots this afternoon:

WR Brandon Marshall on what he would say to Jets fans about the 3-8 season..."We all understand this is the business. Last year people were crowning us kings and it felt good. We were applauded at Knicks games and Rangers games and getting free steaks. And when you lose, you're going to hear the boo birds and people are going to be disappointed. They pay a lot of money to come watch us play. We know this market, this team, these fans are really passionate and they want to win. It's been a long time since we've had a winner. So you understand that because it's a part of the business. It comes with it. When you're not doing your job, you're not winning games, it's going to be a rough year."

Head coach Todd Bowles' evaluation of QB Ryan Fitzpatrick's performance and if he'll stick with him as the starter next week vs. the Colts..."We lost the game. I will evaluate everything as the week goes forward. I'm not going to make a rash decision today one way or the other. For the most part, he did a good job."

Fitzpatrick on if he felt confident with the lead after Quincy Enunwa's touchdown catch made it 17-13..."I felt good about Quincy. Good thing he does all those squats and got his butt down. That was good. But No. 12 on their side ... it has nothing to do with a lack of faith in our defense or anything like that, but he is who he is for a reason."

Enunwa on how the Jets will handle this defeat..."I think it would've been great to get that win, to come out of here with a win against that team. I think that was a great pride game. We did some great things for a lot of guys' pride, to come in here and play that team, one of the best teams in the AFC like that. It just shows what we're capable of. we could've done that all year. We could've done some great things. But hindsight is 20/20, of course."

CB Darrelle Revis on the Patriots' last touchdown with 1:56 to play..."Zero coverage. We have to protect the inside. There was no middle safety on the field. We protected inside and they ran out routes — great execution by those guys, seeing what coverage we were in. They basically executed better than we did on that play."

Patriots CB Malcolm Butler on facing the Jets..."It's tough, man. We know each other. We probably don't get along too well, long before I got here. They're a good team when it comes to playing us — they're a good team anyways. Coach said it was going to be a dogfight and that's exactly what it was."

Patriots QB Tom Brady on if he felt his knee injury hampered him during the game..."I'm happy the week is over. It was a long week. I think everybody is battling through different things. You just do the best you can do. It's a long season. Every week starts fresh again. I'm glad it's over, and I'm glad we won."

Brady on getting his 200th regular-season NFL victory with today's win..."It's a team sport. Individual awards and things like that mean that I've been part of great teams with great coaches and great teammates, and I've had a lot of really great support over the years, so hopefully we can keep winning. It never gets old."

CB Buster Skrine on Brady and the Patriots' play down the stretch..."Brady's one of the clutchest quarterbacks of all time. Last year, similar situation, they converted on fourth down but we won. This year they converted on fourth down and they won. I give them all the credit. They made more plays at the end of the day."

Skrine on why the Jets couldn't close the deal vs. the Patriots..."We've just got to learn how to finish. As a team we've got to finish. Every game we've played this year, it's come down to the wire at the end of the game, and we've been letting them go. As soon as we learn how to finish, we'll be dangerous, but right now we're not finishing and that's all that we are is 3-8."
