Jets-Steelers: Locker Room Sound Bites

Bowles, Fitzpatrick on the Sting of the Defeat, Tomlin on the Pitt D's 2nd-Half Adjustments on Marshall

Selected quotes from the Jets and Steelers locker rooms following the Jets' 31-13 loss at Heinz Field this afternoon.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles on preventing frustrating from setting in over the Jets' 1-4 start..."Being frustrated is part of everyday life. You have to let it go and rebuild and reload. This league is week-to-week. You can be a Super Bowl contender one week and get buried the next week. Now, we are getting buried.'

Bowles on if he thought it was a mistake not to go for it on fourth-and-2 at the Jets 46 with 7½ minutes to play..."Time travel doesn't work in life. It was a mistake if you look at it that way. I don't think it's a mistake when we were getting three-and-outs before that and getting off the field."

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick on the Jets being 1-4..."It's tough. This is the third week in a row that I would say we wouldn't expect to be here. It's going to take a mature approach and a group of veteran guys to dig ourselves out of this hole. I still have a lot of confidence in the guys in that locker room. I think this is the right team to do it.

DL Steve McLendon on how well Ben Roethlisberger and his former Steelers teammates played against the Jets defense..."We did get to him, but you've got to understand a guy with his kind of talents — he's tall, he's smart. But I'm not here to talk about them. Congratulations to them, they got the win. It's about us."

CB Marcus Williams on how much this loss hurts..."Every loss is a bad loss. You never want to lose at all. It's just getting tougher when you keep losing AFC games especially. These are the games that are going to count for us at the end. We've got to win these games. We know we're a good team. We've just got to keep fighting, keep pushing. We can't play good for three quarters and then let up in the fourth. We've got to play the whole game and that's what we re trying to build, we're trying to build complete games. We're still working on it."

S Rontez Miles on playing back home in front of friends and family in the Heinz Field stands..."We didn't get the win. That's the biggest thing. I had fun playing the game, though, but it's kind of hard to enjoy more and more if you take an L. They outplayed us today. We've got to learn, we've got to figure some things out. But our heads are held high. We've been here before. Last year we went on a losing streak, then we won five straight and came close to getting in the playoffs. We've been here before. It's nothing that we haven't overcome before."

TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins on getting his first two receptions as a Jet and the first two receptions by Jets tight ends this season..."The first catch was just a normal catch. A catch is a catch. But yeah, it was just a good start, a good way to get my feet wet. Then next week we'll see where we go from here."

Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin on Brandon Marshall's game and what the Steelers did to limit him to two second-half catches after he had six for 86 yards and a TD in the first half..."Normal halftime adjustments. They did some different things in the first half of the game than they've done in recent weeks. We adjusted, and I thought the guys did a nice job of adjusting. ... We just respect their plan. They had a good plan and they moved the ball on us a little bit."

Roethlisberger on his offensive line, playing with third-string RT Chris Hubbard..."They were unbelievable. How about Hubbard stepping up and playing. That is arguably one of the best defensive lines and front sevens in football and our guys were just phenomenal. They drive us. We go as they go and they had a great game today."
