The Jets completed a bye week practice squad transaction, signing wide receiver Mario Alford to the squad today, one day after releasing tackle Jesse Davis.
Alford (5'9", 180) was the seventh-round selection (No. 238 overall) out of West Virginia by Cincinnati in the 2015 NFL Draft. He played in one game for the Bengals last year with one reception for 15 yards. He was waived/injured with an ankle injury after this year's training camp on Sept. 3.
Alford played two seasons with the Mountaineers, compiling 92 catches for 1,497 yards (16.3 yards/catch) and 13 touchdowns and also returning kickoffs, with 26 returns for a 28.6-yard average in 2014. He turned in some blistering 40 times of 4.32 and 4.27 seconds at his pro day.
Davis, an undrafted free agent with the Seahawks in 2015 and a first-year player with the Jets this year, was waived Aug. 28 and was signed to the practice squad Nov. 1 before Tuesday's release.
