Seven-Year Vet Could Be Suspended by League, Green & White Prepared Either Way

Jets wide receiver Jeremy Kerley expects to play against the Bills Thursday despite reports of a potential suspension.

Kerley fully participated in Tuesday's practice, but head coach Todd Bowles said the Jets are bracing for the worst just in case.

"We have other guys taking reps in there," Bowles said. "We're prepared either way."

Kerley signed with the Green & White in early September and ranks third on the team with 217 yards and one touchdown on 22 receptions. The 5'9", 188-pounder said he's mainly focused Thursday and will leave the suspension up to the NFL.

"It's a division opponent," he said. "Every one is important especially when you get late in the season. "You want to stack as many wins as you can. I think this team's goal is a lot different than what it's been in the past. We're definitely trying to get to the playoffs and get somewhere where this team hasn't been in a long team, so it's important to stack wins."

If Kerley does not suit up against the Bills, rookie wideouts Chad Hansen and ArDarius Stewart, who was not active in Week 8, could receive more playing time.

Injury Report
Cornerback Buster Skrine was limited in practice and remains in concussion protocol.

"He has to clear it tomorrow," Bowles said of Skrine's chances to play. "I think he might have two [phases remaining]."

Defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson (shoulder/foot) did not practice, so the Jets added some depth to the front with Xavier Cooper, who will most likely play Thursday. Cooper was a third-round selection of the Browns in 2015 and Bowles said the team has been looking at him for a while.

"He has familiarity with Coach Nunn as far as certain things in the system," Bowles said. "That was one of the reasons we signed him."

Other players that did not practice included RT Brandon Shell (neck), CB Morris Claiborne (foot), S Terrence Brooks (hamstring) and FB Lawrence Thomas, who will not play Thursday (concussion). RB Matt Forte (knee) was limited.

Transaction
The Jets also waived DL Ed Stinson, who signed with the team Oct. 4 and played in four games with the Green & White. A fifth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2014, Stinson appeared in 29 games with the Cardinals over three seasons and totaled 22 tackles. He was waived from injured reserve on Sep. 13.
