NFLN Mock Drafts: Jets Select Rosen, Mayfield

Posted Feb 7, 2018

UCLA, Oklahoma QB Are Considered Two of the Top Signal Callers in the 2018 NFL Draft

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks released their first 2018 mock drafts and both had the Jets selecting a quarterback at No. 6 overall. Jeremiah projected UCLA’s Josh Rosen to the Green & White while Brooks had Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield landing in New York.

Rosen is the second quarterback off the board in Jeremiah’s mock draft with USC’s Sam Darnold going No. 1 to the Browns.

“Rosen is ready to start right now and he would give the Jets a key building block on the offensive side of the ball,” he wrote.

In what seems to be the anomaly among mock drafts thus far, Jeremiah has position players in picks 2-5.

No. 2 — Giants — RB Saquon Barkley (Penn State)
No. 3 — Colts — DE Bradley Chubb (NC State)
No. 4 — Browns — DB Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama)
No. 5— Broncos — OG Quenton Nelson (Notre Dame)

Brooks has the same picks as Jeremiah from No. 1 to No. 4, but Brooks has the Broncos selecting Rosen, which results in Mayfield to the Jets.

“The Heisman Trophy winner could be an enticing option for the Jets based on his alpha-dog mentality and ability to win big games,” Brooks wrote.

The 6’4”, 218-pound Rosen is considered perhaps the most NFL-ready signal caller of this year’s class and is a more a pocket passer as he threw for 9,340 yards, 59 touchdowns and 26 interceptions in three seasons for the Bruins while completing 60.9% of his passes.

On the other hand, Mayfield is a little more mobile as he’s known for extending the play behind the line of scrimmage or taking off downfield. The 6’1”, 212-pounder is extremely accurate as he completed 69.8% of his passes and ranks second in FBS history in passing efficiency with a rating of 175.4 (Sam Bradford, 175.6). A former walk-on, Mayfield totaled 12,292 yards, 119 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in three seasons for the Sooners.
