The Jets recorded eight sacks in their 7-3 preseason win over the Titans, but head coach Todd Bowles isn't ready to tip his cap quite yet.

"They had eight sacks, but that's not indicative of how they played," Bowles said. "I have to see the film. I thought some run holes were open and some people misfit some runs. Overall, they hold them to three points, but there's things to get better at."

Tonight marked the first time since 2008 the Jets tallied at least eight sacks in the preseason (Giants). Defensive lineman Leonard Williams started the party with the first of the night as he brought down Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota. In the fourth quarter, DL Anthony Johnson registered a strip-sack OLB Josh Martin recovered. Martin also had a sack.

"It's pretty stinking impressive," Martin said of the team's sack total. "It's great to build that foundation to be able to get after the quarterback and have people expect that of us. They know it's coming and it's just a matter of building on that week after week."

The 6'3", 245-pounder said he tried to emulate his teammate, outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins, who registered a one-handed sack on the third play of the third quarter. Other players who took down the QB include ILBs Bruce Carter and Julian Stanford and DL Devon Still and Patrick Gamble.

Last season, Martin was predominantly known as a special teams ace. Re-signed in the offseason, the fifth-year player has taken a handful of first-team reps throughout training camp and is loving the competition at OLB.

"You have to take advantage of those opportunities," he said of the defense as a whole. "It's the preseason, so we have the opportunity to establish ourselves and show what we're capable of. We definitely cherish those opportunities and make the most of them."
