Back in The Big Easy

While a number of players are going home to their Louisiana roots, Jets offensive coordinator John Morton is making somewhat of a homecoming as well. Morton coached with the Saints in 2006 and 2015-16. He's been helping defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers throughout the week with the Saints' personnel, but Morton's knowledge can only help to a certain extent.

"With that quarterback, it doesn’t matter who you put out there," he said regarding Drew Brees. "With the defensive personnel, I think it's good to know some of these guys. I think it gives you a little bit of an advantage, but at the same time, we have to go out there and execute. I'm just worried about us right now, that's it."

While Morton is excited to return to The Big Easy, he's focused on getting his players ready for Sunday. Quarterback Bryce Petty will make his first start of the season, but Morton won't change the system for the third-year signal caller.

"We’re going to run our offense," he said. "He (Petty) just has to go out there and play like he has before and go back to that moment in the preseason when he brought us back against the Giants. He did some really nice things."

Still Around
Even though Jets quarterback Josh McCown will miss the remainder of the season with a broken left hand, McCown will be with the team this weekend in New Orleans as a player-coach.

"He has a feel for people," head coach Todd Bowles said. "The way he sees the game, the way he relates to people is very important and he can put all that together."

The 15th-year vet has some coaching experience as he was a volunteer quarterbacks coach for a high school in Carolina in 2010-2011. Since he signed with the Jets in March, McCown has been a mentor for Petty and second-year quarterback Christian Hackenberg.

"Yes, I can see that in him," Bowles said about if McCown shows traits of a good coach. "If that's what he wants to do, I can see him being an excellent coach when he's done playing."

Wilkerson Out of the Lineup
Jets defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson will not play Sunday against the Saints.

"Coaching decision," head coach Todd Bowles told reporters following Friday's practice. "He won't be making the trip and he's not playing."

Through 13 games, Wilkerson has totaled 59 tackles, 3.5 sacks, nine quarterback hits, four pass defenses and one interception.

"I'm just worried about the guys going to the game tomorrow and I'll coach those 53 guys," Bowles said.

As a whole, the Jets are healthy entering Week 15 as the only two players questionable for Sunday's contest are running back Matt Forte (knee) and right guard Brian Winters (abdomen/ankle).
