K Douglass Signed, WR Whittaker Waived

The New York Jets have signed free agent kicker Parker Douglass and have waived WR Huey Whittaker. The announcements were made by Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Douglass (5'8", 175) originally signed as a free agent May 15 with Cleveland and was waived July 31. Prior to signing with the Browns, he played with the Sioux Falls Storm of the Indoor Football League (IFL), converting 15 of 27 field goals and 31 of 36 extra points. At South Dakota State, he broke or tied 19 kicking records.

Whittaker (6'2", 220) was signed by the Jets on Jan. 23. He originally signed with Pittsburgh in 2004 as an undrafted free agent. He spent the 2004 season on Tampa Bay's practice squad after being waived by the Steelers. He went to training camp with Jacksonville in 2005 before spending the summer with the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe. He spent parts of the past three seasons with Tampa and Utah in the Arena Football League, logging 126 receptions for 1,541 yards and 32 touchdowns.
