Locker Room Sound Bites: Jets at Redskins

Some Quotes from Bryce Petty, Todd Bowles & Jets Veterans on Getting Off to Faster Starts

Selected quotes from the Jets' locker room at FedEx Field following their 22-18 loss to the Redskins in their second preseason game Friday night:

Third QB Bryce Petty on his second half and improvement over last week vs. Jacksonville..."I think that from last week there are definitely things to build on. We got in the end zone, which is good, a couple of times. But there are definitely things to learn from. We just have to keep getting better each and every week. Good week of practice coming up. We can use that and just continue getting better, from the film room to the field."

Head coach Todd Bowles on WR Robby Anderson's performance..."He made plays, he made a play down the field. I have to see the rest of his body of work. He showed up and made some catches, but again it's everything that he has to do, whether he runs the right route, depth and everything else is what we have to look at."

Bowles on why RB Matt Forte, fighting back from a sore hamstring, was dressed in full uniform but didn't play..."I wanted to get him some warmup work. He needs to start getting work every time he comes out there. The more he gets used to his pads, the better."

QB Geno Smith on his second quarter of work..."Off and on. I missed a few throws here and there. But you know, I think I fit the preseason form — get the chance to go out there, get a few series in, and try to develop some chemistry with the guys. But overall, not to my standards, I think I could've played a lot better."

DE Leonard Williams on notching his second sack in two preseason games..."So far I feel more comfortable in year two, on the practice field throughout camp and in the first two preseason games so far. I don't want to make any too-soon projections yet. I just want to continue to work on my craft."

NT Steve McLendon on how good the Jets' defense can be..."This defense can be extremely good, like really great."

Williams on where the Jets' first defense is as the Giants game approaches..."So far, the opening drives of both of our games have been way too long. We need to hurry up and establish our defense, stop the run, and get off the field as soon as possible. That's basicallly what it comes down to."

WR Eric Decker on any game-planning the team did for Washington..."We go in pretty vanilla. I thought today we started slow and in the second half guys picked it up and played really well. The thing we have to do is we have to execute. When we game-plan and get ready for the Giants, execute is what we've got to do."
