Jake Moreland begins his first season with the New York Jets after joining Robert Saleh's staff as the assistant offensive line coach on February 11, 2021. For Moreland, this is first position as an NFL coach, as he re-joins the Jets, the team he signed with as an undrafted free agent tight end in 2000.
A coach at the collegiate level for 17 seasons, Moreland previously worked as the offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Western Michigan (2017-20). During that time, the Broncos ranked third in the conference between 2017-20 with 433.3 yards a game, allowing just 67 total sacks over four seasons, the third fewest, and producing over 200 yards rushing per game. Additionally, running back LeVante Bellamy (Doak Walker Award), tight end Giovanni Ricci (John Mackey Award) and tackle Chukwuma Okorafor (Outland Trophy) were all named semifinalists for national awards at their position.
Prior to his time at Western Michigan, Moreland coached at Syracuse (2015) and Air Force (2012-14, '16), beginning his coaching career at Elmhurst College (2003) and St. Joseph's College in Indiana (2004), before his first stint at WMU (2005-11) as the team's tights ends coach.
A first-team all-conference selection and team captain, Moreland finished his college career as the leader among all Western Michigan tight ends in career catches (143) and touchdowns (13), before he entered the NFL with the Jets (2000). He appeared in 11 games for the Jets and Browns over two seasons.
Moreland and his wife, Anne, have three daughters, Courtney, Grace and Emma. He graduated from Western Michigan with a bachelor's degree in business administration and marketing.
