The New York Jets have named Joe Sabella of Indian Hills High School in Oakland, NJ, this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award presented by Chase.
Through Chase's partnership, the monetary award to benefit the school's football program has doubled to $2,000. Coach Sabella will be presented with a certificate and an award ball. In addition, he is invited to watch the Jets play the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 13 in Chase's suite at MetLife Stadium.
In its 20th year, the Coach of the Week award is given to a coach in the tristate area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.
Sabella's first head coaching assignment was at his alma mater, Bogota High School, which he led to the state section semifinals in 2009. Sabella was an all-county linebacker during his playing days at Bogota. He is in his sixth season coaching the Indian Hills Braves. He is also a special education teacher at Indian Hills.
On Nov. 13, sixth seed Indian Hills, making its first postseason appearance since 2005, upset third seed West Morris, 21-7, in the North I, Group 4 quarterfinals. The Braves will host Wayne Hills in the semifinals Friday, Nov 20, at 7 p.m.
