COACHING CAREER

Tim McDonald was named the Jets defensive backs coach on Jan. 24, 2013.

He spent the 2012 season at Fresno State as the secondary coach.

In his lone season directing the Bulldogs secondary, safety Phillip Thomas led the team with eight interceptions and earned unanimous all-American honors, the first Fresno State player in history to earn such an honor.

COACHING CAREER

Tim McDonald was named the Jets defensive backs coach on Jan. 24, 2013.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Selected in the second round of the 1987 NFL Darft by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Played 13 years in the NFL from 1987-99 with the St. Louis/ Phoenix Cardinals (1987-92) and the San Francisco 49ers (1993-99).

During his NFL career, he played in 191 games, making 187 starts. McDonald finished his pro career with 1,063 tackles, 40 interceptions and 16 fumble recoveries.

Was selected to six Pro Bowls, including five-straight from 1991-95. McDonald helped the 49ers win Super Bowl XXIX with a 49-26 victory over the San Diego Chargers.

McDonald was one of only six safeties named on the Walter Camp All-Century Team selected in 1999.

Named a two-time all-American safety at Southern California and collected consensus all-America honors in 1986.

Three-year starter at strong safety at Southern California, where he accumulated 325 tackles and 11 interceptions.

OFF THE FIELD

Graduated from Southern California where he majored in business administration.

He and his wife, Alycia, have two sons, Timothy Jr. (TJ) and Tevin, and one daughter, Taryn. TJ has started at free safety the past three seasons at Southern California and Tevin recently completed his sophomore as a safety at UCLA with 56 tackles and three interceptions. His daughter Taryn is currently a freshman at USC.
