Mike Caldwell

Mike Caldwell returns for his third season as the team’s assistant head coach | inside linebackers coach after joining Head Coach Todd Bowles’ staff from the outset in 2015, guiding a group that last year saw 2016 first-round draft choice Darron Lee post 40 of his 76 tackles as a starter over the season’s final six games. His charges were part of a defense that allowed just 3.69 yards per carry to opposing ball carriers, the fourth lowest average in the league, as the Jets were one of just five teams to surrender 91 or fewer rushing yards in a game 10 times, despite facing six of the top-10 running backs in rushing yards.

In his first season with the Jets (2015), Caldwell’s unit was part of a defense that helped to set a franchise record with just 83.4 rushing yards per game allowed, as two of his linebackers, David Harris and Demario Davis, finished first and second on the team in total tackles with 128 and 118, respectively.

Prior to joining the Jets, Caldwell oversaw an ARZ linebacker group that contributed to a defense (coordinated by Bowles) that ranked fifth in points allowed per game in 2015 (18.7) despite the key losses of inside linebackers Karlos Dansby (free agency) and Daryl Washington (injury).
