■ John DeFilippo joins the Jets after two seasons as the Raiders quarterbacks coach (2007-08) and two seasons as offensive quality control assistant with the Giants (2005-06). In DeFilippo’s two seasons with the Giants, they compiled a 19-13 regular-season record and reached the postseason twice.
■ He coached quarterbacks at Columbia University for two seasons (2003-04), where QB Jeff Otis threw 24 touchdown passes and was second in the Ivy League with a 57.3 percent completion rate in 2004.
■ He worked as a graduate assistant coach at Notre Dame for two seasons, coaching wide receivers and tight ends in 2001 and quarterbacks in 2002. The 2002 squad started 8-0, posting wins over No. 7 Michigan and No. 11 Florida State and finishing 8-3 with a Gator Bowl berth.
■ He started his coaching career working with quarterbacks at Fordham University in 2000, where QB Mike Mucci set freshman records for completions (164) and yards (1,739).
■ While still playing college football, he held NFL summer coaching internships in 1997 (Panthers) and 1998 (Colts).
PLAYING CAREER
■ DeFilippo was a four-time conference all-academic quarterback at James Madison and helped lead them to an Atlantic 10 title as a senior.

■ DeFilippo was born in Youngstown, OH.
■ He graduated in 2000 from James Madison with a degree in communications.
■ He is the son of Boston College athletic director Gene DeFilippo.
