■ Kerry Locklin joined the Jets after nine seasons as the defensive line coach at Fresno State, where he coached two different Western Athletic Conference Defensive Players of the Year in Garrett McIntyre and Alan Harper. Those two players along with another Locklin protégé, Nick Burley, were among the school’s top five in career sacks.

Under his guidance, 11 FSU linemen earned all-conference honors in nine years, including seven first-team selections. Fresno State boasted the WAC’s top overall and scoring defense in 2004 and 2005. In addition, the Bulldogs played in eight bowl games in his nine-year tenure there.

■ He coached the defensive line at Eastern Michigan (1995-1999).

■ He coached wide receivers and linebackers for Shreveport (CFL) in 1994.

■ He coached running backs on the same staff as Rex Ryan at Morehead State (1990-93).

■ He was a graduate assistant at Utah (1989) and running backs coach at Western New Mexico (1988).

PLAYING CAREER

■ Locklin was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the sixth round of the 1982 NFL Draft.

■ He played three years in the NFL (Rams, 1982-83, Broncos, 1987) and two seasons with Arizona in the USFL (1984-85).

■ He was named an All-WAC tight end at New Mexico State, earning UPI and AP All-America honorable mention honors, and was also an All-Missouri Valley Conference first-team and Academic All-MVC first-team selection in 1980 and 1981.

OFF THE FIELD

■ Locklin was born in Las Cruces, N.M.

■ He graduated from Rockdale (TX) HS.

■ He graduated from New Mexico State in 1982, earned a master's degree from the school in 1985, and is close to completing his doctorate degree in sports psychology.

■ He and wife, Kelly, have a daughter, Tishelle, and two sons, Tymon and Torry.
