PRO: Starting QB in six games last year, but he too fell victim to the QB injury jinx ... took over for Joe Namath in the Baltimore game, but suffered left knee ligament damage two weeks later in Miami when taken down by Bill Stanfill ... was inactive for two weeks, but came back to relieve in the Denver game and then started the next three in a row prior to Namath's return ... threw 9 touchdown passes, including two in the victory over Baltimore ... he went 17 for 21 for 149 that day, stepping in for Namath ... also had a standout day against Cincinnati, hitting 20 of 31 before exiting when he was jarred heavily ... hasbeen the backup since com ing to the Jets ... had a fine year in 1970, engineering victories over the Rams and Vikings, but had a disappointing 1971 campaign ... spent all but one game of '72 on the taxi squad ... has a very strong arm and good mind for football ... spent the 1968 seasonwith Richmond Roadrunners of the ACFL after leaving Duke ... led ACFL in passing ... drafted No.2 in 1969.
