Now starting his third season in New York, LaVerne Torczon originally entered the AFLas a charter member of the Buffalo Bills. In 1961, Torczon was named to the all-league team at his defensive end position and is one of the soundest men on defensive fundamentals in the circuit. A very consistent performer, LaVerne played center, guard and tackle while an undergraduate at Nebraska and was named to the all-Big Eight conference team as a senior. He played in the 1955 Orange Bowl at Miami for the Cornhuskers. Torczon claims his biggest thrill in football, college or pro, was scoring a touchdown in his first game at Nebraska while playing center. During the off-season, LaVerne is a life insurance salesman. He lives with his wife Lucille and daughters Lynn Rene and Lana Kay in Platte Center, Neb.
