Powell is a quarterback's delight. His size makes him easy to spot downfield, and his speed-he's run the 100 in 9.7-and great set of mbves have opposing defenders running in circles. What's more, he's got hands that look ready-made for catching footballs. Art's stellar performance last season prompted Titan head coach Sammy Baugh to assert that "no man in this league can cover Powell man-for-man." His league-leading 14 TO pass-catches in 1960 had the other coaches conceding the rangy end at least one scoring snatch a game. Art hauled in 69 aerials in all, good for 1167 yards, or an average of 16.9 yards. He had an outstanding two years at San Jose State both as a halfback and an end, prior to putting in two campaigns in the Canadian pro league. Powell put his explosive speed to use as a kick return specialist with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1959, but he blossomed on offense with the Titans last year. Art's brother, Charlie, former heavyweight boxer, is with the Oakland Raiders. Art is married and makes his home in San Diego, Calif.
