One of the outstanding tight end prospects in the AFL,
Gene Heeter is starting his second year with the Jets. Last
year, Gene missed half of the season with a knee injury
but a late-season operation now has him restored to full
operating capacity. In the limited amount of game time
he put in, Heeter caught 8 passes for 160 yards and a
touchdown. Gene draws coaches' praise for fine blocking
and has as fine a pair of hands as any member of the
squad for pass receptions. Originally property of the San
Diego Chargers, Gene was picked up in the special supplemental
draft held by the AFL a year ago. While in college
at West Virginia, Heeter earned honorable mention
all-America honors and was chosen as the squad's most
valuable player for the 1962 season. He played in the
East-West Shrine game at San Francisco at the end of that
season. Gene's single and lives in Windber, Pa.
