Wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery led the Jets to victory with a team-high 70 receiving yards and his fourth touchdown of the season. With just under five minutes to go in the game, Cotchery hauled in a dazzling 22-yard touchdown from Chad Pennington, a catch which proved to be the game-winning score. Cotchery credits the victory to the balanced attack in addition to confidence and preparation.
"Basically, we just wanted to come in and attack," he said. "We thought that we could make a lot of plays in the passing game and we did. We were able to run the ball effectively today too. Together it was just a great plan and I felt great about the plan throughout the week. We finished with a great practice on Friday and everyone felt good about it."

Victor Hobson, Linebacker
(On the hit on Brady)
I felt like he had the ball and I wouldn’t have driven him into the ground. I didn’t feel like I hit him with my helmet. It’s one of those things, where you have to get up and continue to play because it is one of those calls you can’t get back.
(On the victory today)
New England has been on the top of the division for so long and this is my first victory against them in my four years with the Jets. In order to get to the top, you have to take down the teams at the top and we were able to do that today.
Pete Kendall, Guard
(On being able to run the ball)
We were able to run it a little bit and that’s a tough front to run against. They make you pay for every yard.
(On Chad Pennington)
There was a great deal of cynicism surrounding his ability to come back, but I think the one thing that most of the guys that play with Chad recognize is that if he were able to get back physically, we had ourselves a good quarterback.
(On overall play of offense)
We all wish we could have finished a little bit better. We wanted to take all the time off the clock at the end, we didn’t do it, but we did make them use all three time outs. It helps us as an offensive line to be able to go out there and gain some confidence and some continuity by having drives that go something longer than three and out.
Jerricho Cotchery, Wide Receiver
(On touchdown catch)
I think (Ellis Hobbs) kind of fell asleep a little bit. When I looked back, I saw the ball was in the air and it was just up to me to go up and get it. I guess he thought because I didn’t come off the ball as fast, that it was just coming right down to him.
(On importance of win)
It means a lot. This is a team that works so hard, we’re 5-4 right now, but we’ve lost a lot of games that we’ve had a chance to win. Just to be able to pull out a game like this means a lot to the team. We just kept believing in each other.
(On long drives)
Basically, we just wanted to come in and attack. We thought that we could make a lot of plays in the passing game and we did. We were able to run the ball effectively today too. Together it was just a great plan and I felt great about the plan throughout the week. We finished with a great practice on Friday and everyone felt good about it.
(On winning for Mangini)
Every game is important to Coach Mangini. It was just good to see [the coaching staff’s] faces after the win because those guys work very hard each and every day to come up with a great plan for us to go out and work with. I think they did that throughout the bye week, we got better as a team, and individually we took advantage of that time and I think it showed today.
(On Pennington’s rehab)
Each and every day you could see Chad going in to rehab very early in the morning and leaving very late at night. I think that rehab that he was doing is paying off right now. He’s a very intelligent guy and he’s a very hard worker. We feed off of him because he’s our leader. Anytime someone else makes a bad play and it involves him, he always steps up and says if it was his fault. I think we’re just glad to have him as our leader.
(On touchdown)
We were just trying to keep the chains moving. It was one of those drives where we wanted to take as much time off the clock as we can but at the same time we wanted to be aggressive with our approach. I didn’t come off the ball hard and [Ellis Hobbs] was looking in at Chad and once I looked back I saw the ball up in there air so I knew it was up to me and the defensive back to go get the ball and fortunately I was able to make the play. In those situations, it’s whoever wants it the most.
(On practicing in the elements)
You could tell in the warm-ups. It seemed like it wasn’t raining. Everyone was focused on catching the ball and it was just another warm-up for everyone else. We’ve been practicing on a similar field also so all those situations that occurred today, I think we’ve been practicing with.
(On playing well against the Patriots)
I’m really benefiting from being on the other side of Laveranues [Coles] right now. A lot of teams are going to pay a lot of attention to him and I knew earlier in the year there were going to be a lot of opportunities for me out there. Chad [Pennington] has been dialing my number and he’s leaving it up to me to make plays and I’m going to keep trying to make plays for him.
Shaun Ellis, Defensive End
(On the final sack)
They needed to complete the pass to get in field goal range. It was just huge; God blessed me to put me in a position to make the play. It seemed like everything was in slow motion. I made a good move on the guy and came around the end and he (Brady) was right there.
(On the game plan and weather)
All we needed to do was just come out and play hard. Play hard to the end and try and not to give up big plays. No matter what happens in the game, don’t get rattled and keep pursuing and putting pressure. We stuck to the game plan and things just worked out for us. Not matter what the weather is, we always go outside and practice, and we are a team that can adapt to the weather.
Erik Coleman, Safety
(On Brady and the win)
He is a great quarterback and he has made many comebacks. That first drive, when they came down and scored, hurt, but we knew he had to come back on the field and get things done on the next drive. We knew it was going to be up to us to stop them and we came down and came through. Shaun (Ellis) had the big sack at the end and we were victorious.
(On the Jets/Pats rivalry)
It is a huge win for us, ever since I have been here they have beat us. Just coming here and playing well and coming out of here with a victory is huge for us. Hopefully we keep accumulating victories.
Bobby Hamilton, Defensive End
(On the game)
We are going to keep preparing each week and just go out there and do what we do. We are going to control what we do in this locker room and play together. We don’t get caught up in what people say, we just have to worry about we are doing here. We are just going to take one game at a time and you make the judgment about the Jets. We are just going to control what we can in this locker room and go out there and play.
(On Coach Sutton’s defensive game plan)
The coaching staff did a great job. I think this was one of the best game plans we have had the whole year. We got a lot of talent on the defense and we just have to go out there and play together. I think he did a great of job putting the right guys out there in the right defense and called a good game plan.Jonathan Vilma, Middle Linebacker
(On pressuring Tom Brady)
We know he’s great at reading secondaries and reading coverage so as long as we held up in the back end, we knew we could get pressure on him. If he was frustrated, he didn’t show it. He’s real cool, calm and collected so I couldn’t tell if he was frustrated or not. I knew that he wanted to win and he had the opportunity to go out there and win it at the end.
(On long drives)
The best defense is a good offense. Our offense did a great job.
(On win)
This win obviously is a confidence builder. I think the most important thing we got out of this win is that we’re one game behind them in the division and we split the division games between them. As long as we keep winning, and hopefully they hiccup somewhere down the road, we’ll have great chance for the division and whoever wins it gets to go to the playoffs.
(On new game plan and execution compared to old schemes)
It was about 20/80 – 20 percent new stuff and 80 percent executing. I think that was the best thing we did in the bye week. We went out there and we executed in practice. Coach [Eric Mangini] was happy about it and he believed in it.
Laveranues Coles, Wide Receiver
(On winning on the road)
It is important for the organization, anytime we can come out and get a victory. It is special for the team, and it is a win in the division that is the most important thing. This shows that when we put our heads together, and we put together a game, we can come out and play with anybody.
(On winning for Eric Mangini)
He would not want me saying this but, you kind of want it a little bit extra for the coach. You know how much hard work, and time he put into it. We just wanted to step up and play harder for him.
Kevan Barlow, Running back
(On satisfaction of playing)
The guys did a great job blocking. The offensive line just went out there and allowed me to get into the secondary. I could take some of the credit, but those guys were getting me open, and it made my job easier.
(On about his number getting called more)
I do not think it was a package we practiced through out the week. There have been games when Leon Washington will run the same package as me. I think my opportunity to go out there was a little more because it ended up being the type of game where we needed to run the ball. I think Coach Mangini prepared us well on Wednesday for this whole thing. We played this game on Wednesday at practice, because it was raining just like this.
