The New York Jets celebrated Sunday on the field and their fans celebrated in the stands. But at halftime, according to a Tuesday newspaper report, a number of fans engaged in unacceptable behavior on the Gate D ramps.
“We are committed to providing an enjoyable gameday environment for all of our fans,” said Matt Higgins, the Jets' senior vice president of business operations. “This type of conduct on one of the stadium spirals is outrageous and unacceptable. We have spoken with NJSEA officials and demanded that they take steps immediately to ensure that it does not happen again. The NJSEA, the operators of the facility, has assured us that they will address this conduct at all Meadowlands events.
"We will not allow a small minority of people to ruin the experience for our fans and will be monitoring the situation.”
Most of the crowd remained in their seats at halftime while the Jets honored Curtis Martin, the NFL’s fourth all-time leading rusher. They were also treated to the most entertaining game of the Jets’ season. The Green & White relished their underdog role against the Steelers and captured a thrilling 19-16 overtime win.
There was plenty to cheer about Sunday, but the organization condemns the actions of those fans on the ramps. There are two games left on this year’s home slate — Dec. 9 vs. Cleveland and Dec. 30 vs. Kansas City — and the Jets won’t tolerate a repeat performance from a minority of those in attendance.
Reminder: The Safety/Security Office is located at the East End of the Stadium on the Service Level (between Gates B and C). For assistance, notify the nearest Safety/Security or Guest Services Representative or call (201) 842-5200.
