Nick Folk Earns 2nd ST Player of the Week Award

Posted Nov 6, 2013

With perfection come prizes, and Nick Folk has been presented with another such prize for his latest heroics by being named today, for the second time this season, the AFC's Special Teams Player of the Week.

Folk hit all four of his field goal tries, from 39, 21, 47 and 45 yards, all of them instrumental in helping to lift the Jets to the 26-20 verdict over the New Orleans Saints at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. Along the way, he also notched four more kickoff touchbacks.

"I put more pressure on myself than I think anyone else can. Most athletes will do that," Folk said after his latest show of placement perfection vs. the Saints. "Personally, you want to make them all."

In fact, Folk has done that, converting all 23 of his field goal tries this season. That's the most without a miss by any kicker in the NFL this season and has put him on the verge of tying Jay Feely's franchise mark of 24 in a row set in 2008-09.

Folk won the AFC weekly award for the first time after hitting the game-winning field goal to defeat Tampa Bay on opening day. He also won that award once before this season as a Jet, for his kicking prowess at Denver, including setting the franchise record with a 56-yard field goal, in 2010.

And it's the third conference award presented by the NFL for the Jets this season, following Geno Smith's AFC Offensive Player of the Week honor after the Week 5 performance at Atlanta.
