We have moved RB Mike Goodson to the active roster and have signed WR Michael Campbell from the practice squad to the active roster today.

To make room on the 53-man roster, we have released LB Ricky Sapp and WR Ryan Spadola.

The Goodson move was a formality following the end of his four-game NFL suspension. We still had a roster exemption for the RB until we decided to activate him, which we did today.

"I hope he plays on Monday," head coach Rex Ryan said after Friday's practice. "You expect a guy that, he’s not getting full reps, he hasn’t been getting full reps the entire week, and that’s just because he’s just coming back. But again, I hope he can contribute on Monday for us."

The path is clear for Goodson to suit up and contribute in his first game action as a member of the Jets on Monday night against the Falcons at Atlanta.

To make room for him, Sapp was released. The third-year linebacker was inactive the last two games after getting in for eight defensive snaps and 56 plays overall in the first two games combined.

At WR, we made an exchange, bringing Campbell up from the practice squad for Spadola, the free agent rookie from Lehigh who had some big moments in training camp and the preseason. However, in three regular-season games, Spadola was in for only 45 plays, 24 on offense, and had only one pass targeted for him with no receptions.

Campbell was with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Temple in 2011, then got a tryout with the Rams and played for the CFL's Montreal Alouettes. He was invited back to the Jets this June and entered a crowded if not overly experienced 14-member WR group.

"I don't focus on that," he said in August about the camp competition. "I just come out here every day and just better myself. I control what I can control and let the chips fall where they may."

Campbell was a final cut but then was signed to the practice squad. And now the green chips have fallen such that Campbell is on an NFL active roster for the first time.
