Jets-Raiders: Did You Know?

Posted Dec 6, 2013

Did you know these facts and connections for our seventh home game of the season against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday at MetLife Stadium?

■ The Jets trail in this original AFL rivalry, 23-17-2, including playoffs, but they lead the Raiders at home, 10-8-1, and have won their last 3 games in the Meadowlands.

■ This is only the third time in the last 13 meetings with the Raiders that the Jets are playing at home.

■ Under head coach Rex Ryan, the Jets played the Raiders twice @ OAK, winning in 2009 by 38-0, losing by 34-24 in '11.

Nick Folk is 25-for-26 in FG tries this season and has hit his last 16 attempts at MetLife Stadium dating to last season.

■ DE Muhammad Wilkerson has 10 sacks for the year, becoming the first Jet since John Abraham in 2005 to reach double digits in sacks.

■ The Jets defense, ranked 1st in the NFL against the run for the 6th consecutive week, faces off against Oakland's 5th-ranked rush offense today.

■ LB Calvin Pace has 7 sacks for the season, one shy of his career high of 8 set with the 2009 Jets.

Bilal Powell and Chris Ivory have combined for three 100-yard rushing performances this year, all in home wins over the Bills, Patriots and Saints.

■ Jets WRs coach Sanjay Lal was in Oakland's training camp in 1995 and was an assistant coach with the Raiders from 2007-11.

■ Jets quality control/defense Bobby April III, Raiders ST coordinator Bobby April Jr. and Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg all were Eagles coaches last year.

■ Raiders DBs coach Johnnie Lynn was our 4th-round pick out of UCLA in 1979 and Lynn's 17 career INTs from 1979-86 are tied for 15th on our all-time list.

■ Tony Sparano, Oakland's assistant head coach/offensive line, was our offensive coordinator last season.

■ The last Jet to return a blocked field goal for a TD was Ray Mickens, who turned the trick against the Raiders at the old Meadowlands stadium in '97.

■ The last Jet to block an extra point try at home was Marvin Washington, who rejected Cole Ford's PAT for the Raiders in 1995.

■ Chad Pennington, our first-round draft pick in 2000 and the Jets QB from 2000-07, is Sunday's Runway Pilot and Honorary Gameday Captain.

■ S Dainard Paulson set our record for most takeaways in a game with 4 (3 INTs, 1 FUM), vs. OAK at the Polo Grounds in 1963.

■ The first playoff game in franchise history was the Jets' 27-23 win over the Raiders in the 1968 AFC Championship Game, with Joe Namath throwing three TD passes, two to Don Maynard.
