QB Matt Simms, RB Daryl Richardson, 5 Others Return After Clearing Waivers

The Jets, in addition to the acquisition of CB Leon McFadden on waivers, have announced the signing of seven players to their practice squad.

The NFL and the NFL Players Association agreed earlier this month to expand practice squads for the 2014 and 2015 seasons to 10 players from the previous maximum of eight. Here are today's seven practice-squad signees, all of whom were Jets final cuts and cleared waivers:

QB — Matt Simms

Simms played in three games behind starter Geno Smith last year. He QB'd 17 drives this preseason, producing one touchdown, one field goal and 10 punts.

RB — Daryl Richardson

Richardson, a third-year back, was acquired on waivers from St. Louis in May. He led the Jets with 31 carries this preseason, gaining 95 yards for a 3.1-yard average, and added three catches for 58 yards.

TE — Chris Pantale

Pantale was signed after the '13 draft. He was on the active roster five weeks last year but was deactivated each time. This preseason he had three catches for 74 yards, all against the Eagles.

T — Brent Qvale

Qvale, out of Nebraska, signed after the May draft. He was in for 89 plays this preseason, including 61 against the Eagles.

DL — Tevita Finau, Kerry Hyder

Finau, who made stops with Philadelphia and Dallas in 2012, was a reserve/future signing on Dec. 31, 2012, and was in his second Jets camp. He had a sack against the Bengals and was on the field for 118 plays this preseason.

Hyder was an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech who was in for 99 plays this preseason.

S — Rontez Miles

Miles, who signed after the '13 draft, was active for one game last year, against New Orleans, and spent the rest of the season on the practice squad. He played 134 plays for the Jets this summer.
