Jets’ Uni Numbers Game Almost Complete

Posted May 13, 2014

Chris Johnson Takes No. 21, Ellis Lankster to 31, No. 4 for Ryan Quigley

Updated, 5:45 p.m. ET

The numbers are in. All but one or two, that is.

RB Chris Johnson, with Curtis Martin's 28 off limits, finally settled on 21. And three touchdowns are almost as good as four.

But who lost No. 21? That was CB Ellis Lankster, who jumped up 10 to No. 31. (Would that have anything to do with honoring Antonio Cromartie? We don't know.)

And Jeremy Reeves, who had been 31, moved to 41 in this game of musical uniforms.

Punter Ryan Quigley, who passed on his No. 1 to Michael Vick, announced his decision to take No. 4 just a few moments ago.

Also, in case anyone missed it, the new No. 10 at WR is Clyde Gates, whose 19 from last year is now being worn by free agent WR Jacoby Ford.

Top draft pick Calvin Pryor has tweeted that he's not going with 25, his number as Louisville's hard-hitting safety, but with 35. We have not announced Pryor's number officially yet. RB Alex Green wore No. 25 last year.

Here are the numbers the other rookies have acquired, with the coordination of Gus Granneman's equipment staff:

88—TE Jace Amaro

3—QB Tajh Boyd

69—T Tevon Conrad

48—LB Steele Divitto

42—CB Brandon Dixon

70—OL Dakota Dozier

51—DE IK Enemkpali

82—WR Quincy Enunwa

81—WR Shaq Evans

53—LB Jeremiah George

64—DE Anthony Grady

62—DL Kerry Hyder

43—CB Dexter McDougle

48—TE Terrence Miller

79—T Brent Qvale

49—LB Trevor Reilly

16—WR Jalen Saunders

77—DL Zach Thompson

47—FB Chad Young

Johnson will become the 17th Jets player to wear No. 21 in a regular-season game, but only sixth RB, along with FB Clark Gaines and of course LaDainian Tomlinson. Here are all the 21's in franchise history:
