If yesterday was a football Thursday, it's a good chance that it was also time for Coordinators' Corner. Sure enough, Dennis Thurman, Marty Mornhinweg and Thomas McGaughey all had their first news conferences of training camp with reporters following today's practice at SUNY Cortland. Here are some excerpts and the videos from those "newsers":
DC Dennis Thurman on Dee Milliner saying recently that he thinks he's the best corner in the league…
Dee has got to do what he has got to do in terms of getting better, working at his craft. As far as what he said, like I've said, that doesn’t bother me because it doesn’t mean anything. You have to go out and play. Nobody goes out and talks their way through the National Football League. You have to perform your way through this league.
OC Marty Mornhinweg on QB Geno Smith working with the first offense more now than last year as a rookie...
With Geno it is much different in the fact that he's got a year of experience under his belt, 16 regular-season games under his belt. He's been through some battles. And a year of experience alone makes it much, much different. All of the fellows are getting plenty of reps and he's making the most of it. He's had several good days, one day was subpar. We all were. It was the whole offensive football team that was subpar on that particular day. But Geno's excited about what's occurring here.
Special Teams Coordinator Thomas McGaughey on Nick Folk's camp to date...
Nick's been great, he's had a great offseason. When he left [in June] he went out to California and worked with John Carney, doing his training program, and John Carney's a guy that I trust, that I've coached before. He came back in outstanding shape. He's hitting the ball really well. I think he's found a comfort zone with Tanner [Purdum] and Quigs [Ryan Quigley]. They've got a nice rhythm. And he's been kicking off really well. Everything's been going really well."
